There are 325 triple CIB Infantrymen, and 3,471 Medal of Honor Recipients.
Are there any other medals or badges that have been awarded fewer times than the Medal of Honor?

Don't forget that when first awarded the MOH was basically a GCM - with only a loose connection to gallantry in action...

http://www.cmohs.org/medal-history.php

One of the first enactment's authorized 2,000 medals to be awarded to SGTs and PVTs, for among other things, "Soldier-like qualities".

Indeed. Nearly half of the MoH's were awarded in the Civil War. I don't think that most of the Civil War MoH's can be considered on the same level as the more modern ones.

I think most medals and even badges go through some kind of an evolution.

In 1919 several thousand MOHs were rescinded, to include the four awarded to women and the ~500 awarded to a Maine unit during the Civil War in exchange for reenlisting just before Gettysburg. The current roster of MOHs is pretty legit

I remember talking to one of our officers in 25 ID about his mustard stain. He laughed and told me he was 82nd in Panama. After the Batt Boys secured the airport, they all got to jump in to get their star. I've never quite looked at it the same since.

SSG Mike Busovicki - While common in some commands, that is not true for all. I cleared over 1.4 billion dollars worth of equipment out of OEF with fewer people that any other regional command as an E-7 and my BSM was downgraded to an ARCOM (as were all of my peers)...only the MSG & LTC got the BSM (and the MSG spent most of the deployment playing ping pong).

IMO, This is by All means the most educational thread that has been posted since I don't know . It is refreshing to see something other than what 99% of the posts are about. Thank you all for the posts and your comments.

I think along with the awards already mentioned, the POW Medal has to be mentioned. While a quick Google Search didn't result in an exact number of times this medal was issued, it has only been around since the last 1980s.

Well, it got me to thinking because I had seen some WWII, and Vietnam Vets wearing it. So I looked it up. Now I know that it was brought to bear in the 80's which I thought was before then. But was made retroactive. Quite interesting to me.

My uncle received his. Always laughed that they gave him 2 medals that he didn’t want. One for getting wounded, and one for getting captured! Shot down over Scheinfurt Germany and spent almost 3 yrs in POW camp. Tail gunner B17

A one-time only posthumous Special Medal for Heroism was authorized by Congress and awarded by the President Eisenhower on January 18, 1961.

Distinguish Pistol badge too. I know that being triple Distinguished is limited to I believe less than 20.

Not rare badges but our Chaplain during my second deployment with 1-26 Infantry in Baghdad ended up being awarded the CAB and a Purple Heart.

Not sure how many chaplains have been awarded the CAB?

1SG (Join to see), throughout my career, I actually served with two chaplains (both O-6), who had been infantry officers in their previous lives and both had been awarded the CIB. I know an infantry captain serving now who was awarded the CIB, and is in divinity school. Upon graduation and ordination, he plans to branch transfer to the Chaplain Corps.

The Chaplain that amazes me is one that I met in the 82nd; CIB, EFMB, Ranger Tab, and SF Tab.

I suspect the Naval Aviator wings for LTA (lighter than air) craft is a pretty small number also.
