CH (MAJ) William Beaver - I am too biased to answer this question in a fair manner. Of course I think the US Army Military Police Corps is the "best", if that could ever really be quantified. I have worked with the Military Police/Security Force/Master at Arms of all the services and all are good, however, none of the others have the broad range of missions and capabilities of the Army MPs.
I think each service's Military Police provide outstanding support to their respective services. trying to pit one against the other or trying to determine the "best" is counterproductive and proves nothing.
Not sure a competition is a good way to determine the best. It would simply determine the "best" of the folks participating and, then, only in the selected competitive categories, which may or may not be representative of the branch/service.

CH (MAJ) William Beaver The U.S. Army Military Police Corps is the best. MPs provide a entire range of services, law enforcement and order, force protection, humanitarian missions, combat support and combat operations, rear area security, maneuver and support operations and POW operations. Assist, Protect, Defend.

I will say none are the best. They all have their good and bad points but overall. They are all professional. I was a Marine MP and in the performance of my duties worked with MPs/SPs and MAAs from other branches. I have been to the Army's MP BNOC & ANOC courses. When I was with Div PMO we deployed with the grunts. Not only were we expected perform regular law enforcement on base but in a war zone. We did many of the same things as Army MPs; combat patrols, rear area security, handling POWs, etc. I remember being told, if called upon, we will be sent to the front lines to fight with the grunts. I know this may not be unique only to the Marine Corps but we also send some of our MPs to local civilian Police Academies. I see no need in trying to prove who has the best MPs.

Certainly manning check points in a war zone is a very dangerous job, but I’d agree with your sentiments. There’s a job to do and they all train and do the best job that they’re asked to do. Best? Says who, you can’t quantify that either way, they train as they’re as asked to do.

You are all incorrect. The Air Force has the best. They are called Security Forces, or Defenders, and do it all. And of those Defenders, I am partial to the men and women of the 117th Security Forces! Hooah.
In all seriousness, I have served as Marine MP-Active, Reserve and OCONUS; Navy Master At Arms and Air Force Cop-Reserves, Guard, Active Duty and Deployed. I have attended training by Army, Marines and Air Force. I have served on mission with Army MPs deployed. I have love for all the Military Police/Security Forces/Master at Arms: they work hard so that everyone else can attend to their personal matters-ANYWHERE in the world, 24/7
For the SFS troops, that is why the motto is Defensor Fortis-Defenders of the Force.

I do agree the SF are the best at guardING the chow hall and at stopping Army MP QRF at the gate for going too fast to respond to attacks.

Have things changed with AF SPs & SFs when you said they do it all? I know they were thinking about combining the two units. The SPs were LE and Security Forces were physical security and not law enforcement but they both wear the SP badge that can confuse people, like my brother who was AF Security and my wife who was AF law enforcement. I was not impressed with SPs at Bolling AFB the unit my wife was with. I witnessed unprofessional behavior on and off duty. Their OSI once mistook me as a criminal and was about to lock me up. I had to show them my Federal Credentials before they backed off. The SPs at Andrews AFB were locked and cocked. My brother (CMSgt) was assigned to the Security Forces there and pointed out to me some areas where they are lacking. He explained how he and his men once refused to conduct a part of training because they considered it too dangerous. I told him that type training is routine in the Army & Marine Corps and if we had refused. We would have been Court Martialed. No one unit in any branch is the best or better than the other because they are all professional and have their good and bad points.

I can call out the Marine MPs for not iconic behaviors.. we were working a support in Va. for the base that was holding the annual D-day reenactment. traffic is always a mess and this was my second time doing traffic control. we actually had a marine mp come to our intersection and try to take command (reality he did) because he was stuck in the traffic and wanted to move the line he was in forward to get out. I guess he felt special or something... what ever... lost all my respect.

SPC Stephan Baker - I was the Police Services Chief, Operations Sgt. & acting First Sergeant with PMO at Quantico, Va. We always got along well with army mps. Marine MPs know they can't just take over an army's TCP. This Marine MP was being an ass. If you felt so strongly about that MP's actions, why did you not report the incident? We don't tolerate that crap. Swift & harsh action would have been taken against him. I don't lose all respect for army mps due to the actions of a few because I consider that somewhat unprofessional. When I was with AFPD, which is interservice, most Army MPs I supervised were highly professional but I had problems with a few. I corrected that problem real quick and they became excellent MPs.

Yes, and Chuck Norris was also an Air Policeman in the USAF. (that what USAF cops used to be called before changing it to Security Police then later Security Forces) Included here is a picture of Chuck Norris in Air Force uniform.

I'm sort of biased, USAF Security Forces as top but actually all the Military police within each branch of the Armed Forces have their true professionalism. I have never had a negative experience working with Law Enforcement people in those other branches and found We all worked well together. I think each of us take pride in our own branch of Military Police which is as it should be and all of us take justifiable pride in our service.

I'm an MP, I would say it's Army all the way. I spent two years augmenting the Air Forces Security Forces. From that experience I learned that's exactly what they are, Security Guards! They babysit assets. Hence the title Security Forces.

SSgt Charles Edwards, it is unfortunate you do not really know me or have a grasp of inter-service rivalry. Just like the larger more complex picture for the Army MP, beyond garrison law enforcement patrols, entry control and prison operations, it is the same for the Security Forces. The Air Force personnel I served with were competent and knowledgeable in their field, highly trained professionals. I never regretted my time with them but I still prefer the Army. Some of those AF guys are still friends of mine today. Please in the future don't judge so quickly. It may have sounded harsh to you but so was some of the stuff we felt with together.

Ok, I've been reading down through the posts, here is the background. I'm Army National Gaurd an MP. I volunteered for a mission that wound up being on Mc Chord AFB. We trained up, performed LE functions, flight line security, static post security, gate security, I personally spent time as the squadron VSO (I was a specialist E4 then). We were almost able to train up and participate in the Raven program out of McChord AFB but something in the contract prevented us from flying out of our " deployment area". We actually received orders that presented and authorized us to ware the Security Forces tab. In 03 I was awarded Junior enlisted of the Month at some point from our squadron and then Junior Enlisted of the year for the base. We were also instrumental in McChord passing it's Nuclear Asuraty review while we were there.
I'm not trying to toot my own horn. My point is I have a good idea what The Security Forces do and the larger role they fill. I am proud to have served with them and some are still friends today. I am sorry if my humor was to harsh for some. I mean no disrespect to any past, present or future members of any of our services or their families. Incidentally, I currently spend my time assisting veterans of ALL branches, applying for their VA benefits.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter Actually I am trained and tabbed as a Security Forces officer. I wore the Tab proudly on my Army uniform. As an augmented soldier we performed all tasks and were well trained. Ever needed a Globemaster cleared? Yep did that as well as LE, Flight line security, Nuclear Asurety training, crowd control, WADS security. As I recall the only thing we couldn’t do was participate in the Raven Program. While on this duty I was awarded Soldier of the month AND Enlisted Soldier of the year. I have many friends from this assignment and nothing but respect for the SF I served with. I enjoy the inter service rivalry that goes with mixed units. This tour actually made me a better MP and I’m grateful for it. I have a son who followed into the Army and a nephew who went SF. Really, I just wanted to poke fun at the Airfarce and not be all serious. Honestly, I love all my Branch Brothers and Sisters.

Not me. There is no way possible that the navy could ever come close to any of the other branches.

Ya'll know they all come to Leonard Wood and train side by side. Same as all the Earth movers, Electricians, construction surveyors and soils analysts. Only difference is the branch specific MTOE equipment.

My experience at Leonardwood was the Air Force presence was mostly Civil Engineering and the Vehicle Operation folks. There were no SF guys, except for the few who were retraining into other fields...

CSM Richard StCyr CSM well when I went through school it was still at Ft McClellan, AL and yes the two main ground forces Army and Marines went through the same MP School, but back then the Army and Marines were the only Service's that had real Law Enforcement and even the Marines were questionable!
