Major General Lewis B. (Chesty) Puller.
Followed closely by my father who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was awarded multiple medals to include the Bronze Star, numerous Good Conduct Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, Korean War Medal just to name a few.

I appreciate all of the thumbs up, but my question is why are you doing this. Is it for Chesty Puller of Joseph Brown?

Carlos "White Feather" Hathcock. Credited with 93 confirmed kills in Vietnam. But also pulled seven Marines out of an Amtrak after it rolled over a landmine, despite second- and third-degree burns (having been in the Amtrak when it exploded). Said he was only doing what any other Marine would have done.
Had multiple sclerosis the entire time.

The only one I've read was Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills by Charles Henderson. Awesome! The gates of Heaven had to open wide for Gunny Hathcock.

There was a second book, but I cannot recall the name of it now. Tells of his final days.

Doh...I just pulled what I hate the most. Must have read over it.
Chesty Puller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller (June 26, 1898 – October 11, 1971) was a United States Marine Corps lieutenant general and one of the most decorated members of the Marine Corps. Puller is the only Marine and one of two US servicemen to ever be awarded five Navy Crosses. He fought guerrillas in Haiti and Nicaragua, and participated in battles of World War II and the Korean War. Puller retired from the Marine Corps with 37 years service in 1955...

2LT Rules, you can't vote for someone in your own branch :-) Though it is a good choice!

Audie Murphy - he is the first name that came to mind and then a lot of others, but how can anyone not think of the most decorated Soldier of WWII.

Great response. He's definitely on the short list, but I went with Jack Churchill to make this international.

I pick, "Seal Team SIX." Why? Because..
1) I LOVE Navy Seals
2) They took out Osama
Among the Elite, Fearless SEAL Team Six Operator, Adam Brown. Love the story of this man and am inspired by his faith and courage and the legacy that his wife and children continue in his stead.

Again, this is one of those questions that is hard to answer. Much like "who was the best president". All the people named so far are true warriors and could easily carry the title of "Greatest Warrior of all Time". Men like General Patton, General Schwarzlopf, SFC Petry, General Eisenhower, the list is very long; could also carry this title based on their actions.
The biggest hurdle I see in coming up with an answer is how do you weigh in the different eras and how much combat has changed. Are the men of Pickett's brigade worthy of carrying the title after seeing the Union Army positioned behind walls and tree but still carried forwarded and attempted the charge in the fields of Harrisburg? What about the troops holding the line in WWI or the tunnel rats of Vietnam? Again, how do you do weigh the differences in the wars to determine?
Either way, this should be a fun discussion to follow and I look forward to see who else comes up.
