The Sino-Sikh War dates back to 1842, 1SG (Join to see) and the Brits proposed a resolution to this border conflict in 1899 called the Macartney-Macdonald Line, which China accepted. The same proposal was resubmitted at the Shimla Accord that China refused to sign, but that Tibet accepted as an independent state. In 1962, claiming unresolved border agreement, China entered India across the LAC and reached the Shyok Valley. This China claimed was the new Line of Actual Control, but India disagreed and pushed the PLA back to beyond the McMahon Line. This is when India realized its urgent need for a well-equipped and well-trained high altitude Army in Kashmir.
