Thats how I feel. I'm kind of on the "Vote Libertarian and pray they aren't lying" set right now. Republicans are not conservatives anymore sadly.

I'm with you MSgt Hebert.... also agree with CPT Brooks.. I like a lot of the Libertarian platform.. but can't help but wonder if they aren't politicians first just like the rest.

Since the Tea Party hijacked the Republican Party I had to become an Independent. NC only recognizes two parties as far as voting goes - R & D and I just have a really hard time getting into the philosophy of either as they stand today.
One thing I have to say though is VOTE. No matter what you believe, please exercise your franchise. You as military members are so much more educated on the issues than the average voter today. VOTE!

I'd be happy with anyone who actually studies the facts and relies on data over demagoguery. I've voted all over party lines and will support whoever I feel is dealing in reality.

I agree with you Major D. The only problem is, we end up trying to choose the lessor of two evils because the bulls inside the beltway won't let anyone else (other party) come in and play.
Until we get rid of the two party system, or scrap the party system all together, I fear we are going to be stuck with figuring out the lessor of two evils.

I have been a Republican Conservative since the days of Ronald Reagan. My values are Conservative, and always will be. I know those on the left will call me names for being Conservative, but thats because they are covering up their own flaws and twisted
ideology. I may not agree with Liberals, but I am not gonna sit there and call them names.
And, yes I do feel a candidate should be a military vet. They should have at least 8 years of military service

You're not alone here, SGT. I'm conservative from head to toe and I think a candidate should be a conservative military vet Col or above.

Frankly I don't like any of the parties. It's always about choosing the lesser of evils

I saw a bumper sticker recently. It said "Re-elect NO-ONE!" Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.
I got suckered in to the "any vote not for Romney is essentially a vote for Obama" mentality last time. Thank goodness there won't be an incumbent running in 2016; I won't have that fear. I should have voted for Gary Johnson.

Although there may not be an incumbent running Amanda, the field looks like it all comes from inside the beltway, Except Jeb Bush, but we don't really need another Bush or Clinton.

Great question CPL Brown,
Although I do not consider myself to be a political expert nor do I publicly side with any political figure or party in general; I would definitely support a candidate who understands the peoples needs and puts them before any one factions or parties.
As far as in the question of Military service goes I always liked the famous quote from Thucydides, "The Nation that makes a great distinction between Scholars and its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards; its fighting done by fools."

A Soldier/Veteran are so rare these day that they should be put on the endangered species list. Additionally, are greatest leaders as a Nation were veterans. Some terrible ones too, but the best were veterans.

MSG Sand,
Voted for referencing the author of my favorite book.
It's completely fair and accurate as well. We need more Veterans in office, who understand the sacrifices that are made in war. We need less of the academic types who've never set foot on the battlefield to go around trying to use our military as the world policemen. Too often we avoid using Soft Power and move straight to using our Hard Power, or completely cut one option off of the table.

None of the above. I would rather a candidate with NO political interest or aspirations.

Check out my note on Facebook then make up your mind about whether it is a true agenda, or is it a set of beliefs. I am interested in every opinion I can get. Be honest I can take it.

Charles, As far as getting rid of the electoral collage and using the popular vote, would change nothing. After doing some research that each states electors (except for a few) votes for the canadite that won the popular vote of its state

True story, MSGT. It only differed four times...
The electoral college and popular vote differed when the Hayes/Tilden election of 1876, The Harrison/Cleveland election of 1888, and also occured in the 2000 presidential election, where George W. Bush received fewer popular votes than Albert Gore Jr., but received a majority of electoral votes.

I am a conservative, not Republican. The two party system plays a huge part in what is wrong with this country. I consider myself an independent because I tend to vote my conscious on election day. Usually, my conscious tells me that voting for the lessor of two evils, is still voting for evil. I personally think that there should be more parties allowed to pursue federal offices, and that the electoral college should be scrapped and replaced with popular vote.

SSG - While I'm not thrilled with term limits, I understand where you're coming from. There are a number of second- and third-order effects that come with term limits:
1. Neither major party will go for them.
2. Entrenched interests (read lobbyists) will fight them tooth and nail
3. Your institutional knowledge of how things work will be constantly turning over. For example, as soon as somebody on the House Ways & Means Committee figures out what the Tax Code actually says, their term limit kicks in and they're gone.
4. If you thought Congress only had eyes for the next election, just wait until you see what happens when they know they can't run. Congressmen and Senators will be catering to whomever offers the biggest and best deal once their term is over. And it'll be me, you and John Q. Public taking it in the shorts once again.

SFC L. I believe that is what the Tea Party is trying to represent. Although I think they are more of a political action committee than political party, they seem to endorse politicians that favor the constitution.
