They disrespect us because they dont know what we've been through! Most of them were born with a silver spoon in their mouth and will NEVER serve in the military! But I bet if they walked a mile or take a PT testbin our shoes..they will see differently! Most of them would tap out after a field problem!

It seems to me that 99% of elected officials give lip service to Veterans, and wouldn't dream of disrespecting Veterans by word. Deeds are another matter though, our political system favors those who can buy influence. Congress has no problem passing tax cuts for trust fund babies, even while they reduce funding for the VA. The answer is to get money out of politics, until that happens most politicians will remain deaf to the needs of veterans.

Why are our war heroes and vets treated so poorly? Even government officials disrespect them.

I believe that since so little people chose to serve our Country most have no understanding of the life in the military. They fear what they do not understand.

I am not a war hero, but I am a vet. Honestly, the only places I have been treated badly was San Francisco during the Vietnam war, and by the VA after retirement.

But the country tends to forget about the sacrifices that the vets have made to make this country what it is.

97 members of the next session of Congress will have served in the U.S. military. That means less than 18 percent of the new congressional delegation served in the armed forces.

World War II veteran, a POW survivor Franky T. Respicio once said, “No greater sacrifice for love of country than to serve her faithfully by joining the military.”

We have very little veteran's in Government these day's as mentioned above.

And just maybe it is because some of our leaders show disrespect. Remember the candidate that told his kid to do well in school or he would have to join the military like those guys (pointed to some uniformed members.

i'm not sure about everyone, obviously, but do good in school or you have to join the military is a big insult. i did very well in school and joined because i thought it was right. i would loved for somebody to say that around me. people are under the impression that a soldier is just a tool to fight with
