Why are there so many posts about the exact same thing/topic? I thought RP monitored topics.

Sir, actually I think you are right... so in a way I answered my own question... people don't check...(myself included)
Thank you for providing us this great outlet...

It's amusing that you ask that, because recently when I put in my own question, I typed in the keywords and there were zero similar discussions going on. But as soon as I posted my question, the similar discussions block on the right hand side listed half a dozen discussions all regarding the same topic. It could simply be a glitch in the search parameters. I wouldn't say that the topics aren't being monitored, more likely the discussions aren't searchable.

From what I remember back when I was an admin here the amount of butthurt ensuing from merging topics was unreal. Admins do watch for this, but they're here on a volunteer basis and can't catch them all. Some slip through the cracks, and once they've developed a life of their own generally they stay up even if they are near identical to another topic.

I agree, SGT (Join to see) - But I have also had personal dealings with a one particular headhunter who wore his Admin stars like a badge of armor. I showed up once on his radar, and there I stayed. Though every man in prison will tell you he's innocent, I KNOW that my questions were not even close to being the same, though the topic was identical. That's why this whole topic pisses me off when I see Admins participating in different posts that a blind man could see are identical.

That's what they pay admins to do. They are overpaid!!! Repeat topics are all but completely ignored unless you are on someone's radar screen.

SGM Erik Marquez - right now, Erik, there are at least five posts about Chris Kyle and Stolen Valor. THREE have the EXACT same wording. RP even has a similar post. Changing a few words DOES NOT a new question make. One of the problems with this issue lies with interpretation. One of you reads it differently from another, and decides it's not a repeat. Another views it 180-degrees differently. This Chris Kyle thing is a perfect example of system failure. A program could easily be designed to not allow the publishing of a question that the program detected as exactly the same or similar. That kind of "tickler," which is what it's called, is in operation in millions of drop-down boxes and line item entries in programs everywhere. Banking, Amazon, eBay, ad nauseum.

SCPO (Join to see), outstanding idea.. I have no doubt the site owners and senior admins would love to have you write a simple program that works seamlessly across all supported platforms including multiple mobile ones, & a dozen different browsers, said program that would filter only actual duplicate threads without mistakenly capturing a similar worded thread but having different intent, nuisance or discussion point embedded in it.
If you have a few hours to volunteer and write that program it would be a huge help to those of us that volunteer our time to try and keep RP organized and on track. Thanks

SGM Erik Marquez - if you can fit it into your hectic schedule, THERE ARE STILL AT LEAST SIX IDENTICAL POSTS ON CHRIS KYLE AND STOLEN VALOR. Thanks for ALL your laborious volunteer efforts, from ALL of us here on RallyPoint.

SSG Pete Fleming You ever been fishing? Did you catch them all? Ya us neither. By all means if you see a duplicate post, flag it so an Admin can have a look. Thanks for taking the time to post.. It is an issue we strive to address, but it's not a perfect system.

SSG Pete Fleming, LTC Yinon Weiss, it has been more common since this new system of sharing a link or asking a question was enacted. Under the old system previous threads would pop up when you entered the subject line, and it was easy to see if it had been posted before. Now one does not get that checkpoint.
I don't know how to check to see if a link has been posted previously if it doesn't pop up in the first few threads under "Answers" > "New".

Sir, See SSG Carlos Madden response above.. ..ahh never mind I'll copy it, ..its point on to your question.."There can be no duplicate posts when members share links and updates because content created this way is shared to your personal network and the tagged groups. So in theory you may see a post a dozen times if 12 of your contacts share it, but if I am not connected to those members, I maybe not see it at all."

SGM Erik Marquez, thanks, I think. I am still having difficulty navigating the threads and frequently cannot find links again that I saw previously. I have not adapted to the change in format very well.
In my following the New threads I frequently see the exact same article shared by multiple people, all with their own separate set of replies. This didn't happen as often under the old format.
