You never hear knife attacks called knife violence.
You never hear car rundowns being called vehicle violence.
You never hear baseball bats being called bat violence.
So why do the media and anti-gun group continue to call it "gun violence?"

gun Violence accentuates the difference and brings the need to supposed Gun control it's Their agenda... and the more they talk about it and vilify it the more morons will sign on to their cause... they are vilifying the weapon as it is the cause of the problem... and if they eliminate the Guns... the gun Violence will just go away...
and the easter Bunny will bring the Publishers Clearing House Check to their House next...

Personally...

I think it's because they're emotionally unstable or have been conditioned to fear a tool. I have literally disassembled a pistol in front of an anti-gun proponent and explained the parts before her.

She still seemed pretty convinced she was looking at the guts of an evil creature.

I have also tried countless times to explain the concept of "assault" weapons, it many times has gone well over their heads.

SPC (Join to see) - It sounds like you're doing a fine job with your "missionary work". Getting people to the range to actually fire is a great final step. I have a few people in mind to take shooting with me, but of late I haven't been able to get to the club myself, let alone think of a guest.
Things will look better in the Spring. Good luck with your work among the "heathens".

Because the entire crux of their illogical argument is that if we remove guns from the hands of people who obey the laws, that somehow killings will stop. The fact that humans can and do kill with many objects seems to baffle them, along with the reality that criminals dont obey laws, and that disarming the victims only helps the predators. They are not a very bright group of people but they make up for it with arrogance and enthusiasm.

Exactly. As one man expressed it:
“A law which restricts the liberty of the innocent because of the behavior of the guilty, that rests on the principle that the conduct of criminals [or psychos] dictates the scope of liberty for the rest of society, in no sense ‘fights’ crime.”
For society has permitted its fear of crime, and craving for safety, to turn the force of law against the innocent and law-abiding. Far from fighting crime, the criminalization of otherwise innocent activities ["keeping and bearing arms"] represents a society in retreat from crime. This is a society desperately accommodating itself to crime.”

By naming something they think they can control it, they imagine that they can do something about it. Crime in general and gun violence in particular, is a symptom of societal problems that as a general rule can not be addressed with more gun laws.

...because guns are scary to some and if you focus on them, you shift the focus from the weak societal/cultural mores and attitudes towards behavior, responsibility, and accountability

For the same reason that they don't demand that cars be outlawed because more people are killed by cars than all other weapons combined. They hate guns.

If people get hurt or die in an airplane crash is it "plane violence" or just "plain "violence""? (pun?...it's been a long day already, I'm going home).
***No people were actually harmed by an airplane in the making of this entry.

Because they are latching on to any incident that can enhance their position on their hidden agenda to snatch guns. They also report the lawful use of a firearm for self defense as gun violence.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - IIRC, the only one of them who did not continue a life of crime was the guy who was paralyzed. (He actually won a $40 Mil. lawsuit against Bernie G.) One of the others raped a pregnant woman, and the others I think were run of the mill thugs.
There was also a report that one of them later admitted, "We were going to rob him, but he shot us first".

CW3 Harvey K. - ok, guess that refreshes the memory a bit, it was a few years back. I remember a State Trooper friend of mine that said, Bernie was His Hero after that shooting happened

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - Yep. One of the NYC cops I worked with said "That guy [Bernie G.] did more for the cause of law and order in NYC than the whole NYPD has been allowed to do for years".
