Why do you spend time here instead of another social media page? Why ask questions here instead of a heavily followed military/service page on Facebook? Why is Rally Point awesome even though you tend to speak more formally here? Please elaborate.

And everyone . . . Stay Awesome!

I use RP compliment my desire to stay connected with those service and those that have served before. There needs to be a balance between internal (closed) communication and external (commercial) for professional development, mentoring, lessons learned, brother/sister-hood.

Facebook is too much for me. I don't care what anyone had for breakfast, or why the world is so unfair. I don't have a single person on facebook that I share any common interests with. Facebook is great, but if you have no one you would like to share anything with...well....it's useless.

I hesitated to answer this because of the ridiculousness of the answers ("...rude liberal idiots"?) Since when is the military strictly conservative? Since when does a person's political affiliation even matter in the military? I arrived here 10 minutes ago today to see a post about lighthearted jabs on other services (linked from Facebook), and have since read a ridiculous thread about religion (the initial thread was well-intended, but descended into garbage) and this poll. If this is indicative of the content on this site, it might be time to head back to FB. I'm hoping that there is intelligent conversation, or even debate, to be had here. I'll give it a day or two more.

Wow, this thread is pretty old...around the time of that post, the whole police militarization [scare?] was spreading fast on FB and I got practically spammed by posts and "suggested" posts about how I am stupid to have joined the military and government this government that. The worst part is that I couldn't really respond to them because I'm a member of the military and anything I say magically becomes the official position of the military in the eyes of the press, and most people making those accusations. It's like fighting fire with rocket fuel. I apologize if my sarcastic tone offended you, that was not my intent.

RallyPoint provides a unique platform to engage both current and former military persons in a professional setting and exchange ideas, views, guidance, mentorship, and support or various forms. The RallyPoint Team does a great job of vetting potential members to verify service to ensure the amount of "trolls" are minimum. That is not a priority on any other social media platform. I like that. Also, with regards to folks speaking more formally on RallyPoint, I think it is great. While there are plenty of outlets here for humor, and we do have a good time, when it is time for serious conversation, a question in need of an answer, or a fellow member reaching out for help, that professionalism rises to the occasion.

Personally, I feel at home in a community of my fellow brother's and sisters in arms. While different, we share service to our country as a common denominator. We have unique perspectives that are different than the common civilian. That unique perspective is often times hard for civilians to hear or really understand.

I'm on RP to find friends, meet folks, get help, and help VETS, and their families. PLEASE feel free to ask me ANYTHING. NOTE: I am NOT a doc, or councilor, but I was in the medical field both in the military, and civ. world. I have experience with navigating the V.A. benefits, and disability, as well as Social Security. I also have many resources available to me. If you want to contact me, I'm on Yahoo, LinkedIn, and FACEBOOK.
