I have worked with all the services frequently during my career. I see the ups and downs in each service. The Army seems to have the biggest attitude towards itself though. I would like to hear thoughts as to why Soldiers seems to talk bad or dislike the service that I love. Some may disagree this is true, but I do not think I am off base by stating this.

****FOLLOW UP QUESTION****

Do you think it is possible for the Army to ever show the universal pride in service that the USMC does?

There are only two branches of the Military. The Army and the Navy. The Air Force is a corporation and the Marines are a cult.

Your kidding right? Served as a Marine from 78 threw 80. The Army after that. Marines talk a lot of hype. The Army doesn't need to. The Marines fight and win battles, the Army wins wars! The Marines dress blues look great! I thought the Army dress blues were just as nice. The Marines have great Generals, the Army has had War Lord's (Patton). Don't compare a bull dog to a Wolf! I am more proud of my role as a combat engineer in the Army then I was as infantry in the Corp. I don't need to brag how bad ass the Army is! They already know it!

Marines tell themselves everyday they are the best and they believe it. In the Army the consensus is that people join the Army because they couldn't do anything else. Its good you take pride in being in the Army but its not as big a part of the culture as it is in the Marines. In the Army Soldiers tend to take pride in their branch first and the Army second.

The service that I saw that that busted on itself the most was the Navy and then the AF. The AF though did so b/c they knew how the other services looked down on them and they liked to joke about it.

I agree that the Army being larger than the Corp tends to infight more but it's b/c of the different cultures/sub groups. Very bad between combat arms and non combat, less so between combat arms sub groups.

I never would have said the Corp has universal pride either but that's based on what I saw anecdotally. Some are going hate what they do no matter what it is, that's life.

I was Army .. USAFR... And I am proud of all my service.. I was proud of my service in the AF and Army...I guess that is pride.. So I don't understand why you say the Army doesn't have the amount of 'Pride" that the Marines have.. That being said ....Army all the way...Even the Marines need Heros!!!!

This is an odd question. Universal Pride, hmm, I read a couple of the responses--everyone has a right to an opinion but I am very proud of my 26 years of AF service and I know many Airmen who feel the same way. Each service has its mission and culture, and whether you look at each service subjectively or objectively the fact is the US military services collectively form the strongest military in the world.

The problem is leadership. Too many leaders are not qualified to be leaders and this affects a soldier atttitude. The Army promotes people because they have a number of positions to fill at each grade. Promotion is not based on proven ability to handle the additional responsibility that comes with rank. Also leadership has failed to instill pride in being a soldier in the US Army.

I am one Army Soldier that is glad for the Marines. We talk 'smack' to each other, but family does that, and we fight together when we have to, but The Marines are known as the FEW,THE PROUD.I did PT one day with a Marine and my Army tail end was dragging in 15 minutes, but I was glad to see and know I was covered. Each Branch works together so please, put who has the most Pride to rest, cause we are ALL in it AS A TEAM.

I have always heard the phrase: "ONCE A MARINE, ALWAYS A MARINE." I've never heard,"ONCE A SOLDIER, ALWAYS A SOLDIER." What more need be said about a MARINE. I was a sailor, but to the CORP I say "SIMPER FI."
