1. Are they increasing, or is the reporting of them getting more accurate? Maybe more folks feel more enpowered to report them.

As referenced earlier the number of reported assaults may have increased but that may not reflect the true number. But it is extremely alarming if you look at the reports. In the recent years the numbers have doubled. We have integrated females into combat units and combat MOSs. I doubt that would really have much of an impact. I don't believe soldiers in these units would have any less control of their urges than any other soldier in the Army. In all honesty I blame society. People in general have become more brazen. Being in the military we at still a part of society. Those that lack a morale compass will find their way into the military and still not find their way. I would never blame a victim but the military is an environment that can be used by predators. Something like the Fort Hood Sharp Rep running a prostitution ring comes to mind. I wish soldiers that lose their bearing in this way would be reported more often but it is often dismissed as "just playing" or just accepting the comments as something they would never act on.

Why does the number of sexual assaults continue to increase throughout the Army?

Because we are treating the symptoms rather than toe root cause.

SPC (Join to see) Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you correlating the increase in public view of sexual assault in the military with an actual increase in sexual assaults? The question comes off as if you're stating a fact, just seeking clarification.

Going with how I presume you intended the question, I think there is just a lot more spotlight on sexual assault/harassment right now in the public view period. The Army has been pushing SHARP hard for several years now, and then Holloywood's scandals left and right has just intensified everything. It's a hot topic, so there will be more news reports concerning incidents giving the false impression that the overall rates are increasing when in fact they're just coming to light. The media is only following the public's hot topics.

Please cite a study that proves that this is the fact.

Here's one SGT Joseph Gunderson. It literally took me about 10 seconds on google to find. The attached report was released May 1st of this year, and the short version is that it shows a 10% increase in reported sexual assault over the previously reported fiscal year. Next time before you go full blast on a fellow service member for asking an honest and good faith question take ten seconds to at least check your goddamn facts first.

SGT (Join to see) negative. It is the responsibility of the the person presenting the statement to come with the correct info. By the way, there is no study attached.

SGT (Join to see) ok guy, because of your hissy fit, I found the article that you were probably attempting to share. That doesn't say much. It states that the rate at which SMs actually report is going up but the actual number or rate at which sexual assaults are occurring are actually lower; the number of women sexually assaulted on active duty is down by 1/2 and 2/3 for men. That's directly from the article. What this demonstrates is that reporting is going up, as it should. However, the actual instances of sexual assault towards or by SMs has been going down. You just cited an article/study that states the exact opposite of what the SPC asking the question was insinuating. Way to go hero. Perhaps before you go off half cocked you should read the articles and not just the titles. Now, go calm down and you can come join us at the the adult table when you learn to stop pouting.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - baseless claims should be met with a controlled level of hostility. Perhaps the country would not be in the awful condition it is currently if more people spoke up against people espousing nonsense.

My theory is that the Political Correctness and Social Progressive Doctrine has led to the increase of sexual assaults in the Army including the other services. It is not only females that are assaulted but males as well. I believe the suicide rate amoung males is due to the stigma of a rape. The female assault are due in part to the relaxing of sexual standards of all the transgenders, Bisexuals, gay and too many to list & so on. Last point is religion especially Christians and Jews systematcily been demonized in favor of other cults and Eastern religions. As long as people are getting away with assault, the behavior will not cease. I am old school and I would most likely not make in the new, happy & progressive army. I advised my youngest son a few years ago to seek another career and he did.

MSG Danny Mathers - so let me get this straight... asking you for clarification about your post, and stating that I was confused warrants a few down votes?

While opinions indeed vary, I don’t see how the lack of an opinion on a matter and asking for clarification is worthy of a down vote. Interesting.

Please just understand that as written, your opinions seem a bit contradictory, thus, confusing. Best of luck to you.

SGT (Join to see) - I'm done responding to you, a down vote is I do not agree. I do not want a war of words with someone that I have no clue who they are. What is this "Verify to See?"

MSG Danny Mathers - War of words? Respectfully, I’m not sure where that’s coming from. Again, as your ideas, as written, seem a bit contradictory, I asked for clarification.

If you disagree with with clarification, I guess I’m still confused.
Again, best of luck.
