My point is: Why is there so much being made about this issue? Transgendered individuals have been using public restrooms long before it became "problem" recently. What are people afraid of? What has changed?

Just the media manipulating people to cause controversy and make money. The debate is a distraction and doesn't benefit any party.

It's an artificial issue stirred up by the media. Anything that causes controversy will cause people to watch the newscast or watch vidoes. My thoughts on the issue, I don't give a shit where you shit, just clean up after yourself and carry on

I never understood why there was a push to accomadate people who are transgender. Last i checked You can't be born a transgender so this is all about choice. I don't know what you guys think but I don't know what a "transgender" is "suppose" to look like but the way i see it is if you have boy parts you go in the men's room, if you have female parts, you go in the women's room. It shouldn't be what you "identify" with. I had a person that i know is transgender try to identify this with how segregation and how black people had to fight for equality...........I had to calm my self down and state the obvious to him: I was BORN black. I can't change that. I can't be anything else other than black. This is the hand i was dealt. (same goes for anyone of any color). Being a transgender is all about "CHOICE". We should not be catering to individuals that have a "choice" to do something....

LT Miranda Bernabei - You can be born with any sort of disposition, but some involve choices and some don't. You can be born TG and not reveal it to anyone ever. However, there is no choice when it comes to race. A lot of other things involve a personal decision to act or not. The TG issue wouldn't be controversial if it was not for societal norms. However, the list is endless of choices we all make daily considering societal norms. We all adjust to society, but we also have free will. It doesn't make the TG cause any less noble for those that fight that battle, but it is not an easily identifiable physical trait like skin color and must be acted upon for others to know.

LT Miranda Bernabei - so your telling me that u know what a transgender person looks like? That is kinda the feeling I get from this. I have no clue what a transgender person looks like or what they're suppose to look like because I'm not out here looking for that. The only way anyone wouKD ever know is if someone TELLS u they are.

The difference is that the government and the media has become involved.

Last year a transgender person just did their business no one noticed. Now we are told that we have to notice. To me the line is when schools have been told that locker rooms and showers have to be open. Sorry, but if you think you are female, but when you shower in public, everyone else see you are male there IS a problem.

Should it be? Many cultures have seen things differently for years. But, the fact is, in our culture we have observed male and female facilities.

The current thinking is befuddles me. If I expose myself I get arrested. But, if I say I identify as a women and expose myself in the women's locker room is is wrong if people object. Sorry that just makes no sense to me.

LT Miranda Bernabei - i understand that but a unisex bathroom is gender non-specific so there should be no discriminatory practices involved because its for everybody. Win win.

It's about distraction. Honestly all of us have gone to the bathroom with a trans person and didn't have a clue. Who cares? That's why we have stalls.

Look at photos of some transgender people. You wouldn't know one if they were standing next to you.

Come on, what has changed is that we have given permission for any pervert to make any claim they want and enter any space they care to occupy. Think about it.

SFC Everett Oliver - I really don't care how tolerant you think you are. I am not "forcing a lack of morals" on you. First off, the only morals I lack are your own ridiculous "morals". I do have an intact set of morals. Most Americans believe that gay marriage is fine, and that transgender people are not "deviant" as you believe. Second, I am forcing nothing on you if I go pee in a women's bathroom. If you stop me from peeing in a women's bathroom, then you are the one forcing your own skewed beliefs upon me.

I don't think so. " Dr. Paul R. McHugh, the former psychiatrist-in-chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital and its current Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry, said that transgenderism is a “mental disorder” that merits treatment, that sex change is “biologically impossible,” and that people who promote sexual reassignment surgery are collaborating with and promoting a mental disorder."

Of course I expect many to dismiss that....

SFC Everett Oliver - Paul McHugh has not conducted any studies since 1970, and in that one he botched the data to change the outcome. His title is honorary because he doesn't actually work for Johns Hopkins other than writing articles and getting paid by other organizations to come bad-mouth transgender people. He is considered a quack by his peers, coworkers, and even his employers, but he has tenure so he gets to keep his fake title until he dies. He is one man who bases his scientific analysis on his religious beliefs rather than actual science, and the rest of the medical community disagrees with him.

As I said.
So my parents and Grandparents are also quacks... If this were worth it I bet I could easily find many who would agree with the man who was the psychiatrist-in-chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital. But you are dismissed.... I believe that freedom of speech also covers my right not to hear any more PC attacks....

When I was growing up you seldom heard or saw "pedophiles", now the are in the news constantly. So you have kids, and because someone "claims" to be transgender they share the bathroom- now would you be nervous or upset about what would happen if it was a pedophile and not transgender?
