Will a GOMAR that was filed locally really go away or is it one of those things that will come up in the future?

I received a GOMAR that was filed locally as a E-4 and have since then been promoted to Sergeant. From what I have heard and read a GOMAR that has been filed locally will go away when you PCS or after three years. I plan on volunteering to go drill soon and was wondering if a GOMAR that was filed locally really goes away or if it's one of those things that will come up in the future.
