As Marine METOC, I attended a joint school and did all the same training that enlisted Airmen did to become Apprentice Forecasters, plus additional USMC specific METOC training. The USAF awarded me with a school cert as well as the weather "wings" occupational badge. If I go to Air Force OTS, would I be authorized to wear those or was it more of a symbolic gesture? Been wearing it under my cover since

The simple answer, Yes You can wear it. This is authorized by AFI 36-2903. A maximum of 2 specialty (Occupational) Badges may be worn on ABUs above the US Air Force Tape above the left breast pocket (subdued cloth version) or on blue service uniforms (silver color metal badge) above the service ribbons on the left breast. The small or full size badge can be worn but not a mixture of both. There are other badge such as Security Forces, missile etc.that can also be worn in addition to those two devices but another location exist for them. rather than confuse You I'll stick with the original question's answer and not add to it.

AFI = Air Force Instruction, a term You will become familiar with. (Regulation in other services) Also that AFI can be accessed on line on any computer if You have any other questions on uniforms, insignia etc.

Thank you for this detailed response SMSgt. I figured since I had the certificate from the school at Keesler AFB, that would be enough. AFI sounds just like the Air Force's version of our MCO's or Marine Corps Orders.

You should be allowed to wear your skill badges. An Air Force buddy was allowed to wear his Navy Dolphins on his AF uniform.

Interesting. Along those lines, I had earned the Expert Marksman Badge. I didn’t challenge it, but I was told I couldn’t wear the badge anymore when I moved over to the ANG side. I suppose it doesn’t matter anymore since retiring, but is that true?

What they told You IS true. If You had gone to the Army Guard You could have worn it but the Air Guard like both the active AF and AFRes there is only an ribbon and the medals are NOT authorized. USAF used to have a hanging medal but the ribbon replaced that. (That hanging USAF issued medal is no longer authorized and cannot be worn) If You qualified with the US Army as expert that can be credit to the wear of the Air Force Expert ribbon. If You qualified with both Rifle and pistol a single bronze oak leaf cluster can be worn. there are no additional awards or clusters for each additional time You fire expert, only One basic ribbon plus the oak leaf cluster ONLY for the first time. Once You have qualified expert that award can be worn forever. This is in accordance AFM 36-2806, 10 Jun 2019 which supercede's AFI 36-3103, 18 Dec 2013.
