With 3 months left in the army can you be chaptered out under chapter 18 (height and weight)?

You can be chaptered out up until your last day in the Army. The only thing the Army can't do is keep you past your ETS to chapter you unless you're facing court martial.
It's really on the commander to push the chapter if they want to move it faster. You can chapter a Soldier in a matter of weeks if you have the personnel and motivation to move it. But chaptering Soldiers is just one of a dozen other requirements taking up a Commanders time and not usually the most important.

I would have probably said rude things to the person that brought that to my desk with ETS less than 90 days out.

CPT Lawrence Cable I agree. At that point you've either let it go so long without stopping it, or it just popped up and you're being vindictive. Either way, that would be some bad leadership to try to kick someone out like that

CPT Lawrence Cable - so yes but.
Then there is the SM that was given the golden parachute because prior to transgression they had been a great SM, ....then follow on transgression(s) ...
LOL ok so you took compassion and loyalty for weakness ..........83 days left......ya I can get this done.......

SGM Erik Marquez - Yes, I understand that it would be within my means to do it, but my experience has been that dirt bag soldiers can be identified a long time before they get to the point of ETS. With the information this soldier is giving us, if it's his first failure, you don't even have time to complete the remediation part of the weight program, so you counsel him, put him on the program, record his progress and let him ETS. If he failed the remediation part, and was under 90 days, I still wouldn't have bothered with completing the Chapter. You let the soldier ETS with an Honorable and a R3 code. If I didn't think he had what it takes to remain a soldier, Commanders in my day had a large amount of leeway on Bar to Re-Enlist.
Now I am certain that the 1ST SGT, the PSG and I could come up with some ways to make this soldier appreciate that he was still a soldier till he walks out the gate that last time if I thought that lesson was needed.

You are expected and required to serve and maintain all requirements up until you ETS. This includes height and weight standards.
