This is all a matter of perspective. A lot of people will tell you that A, B, or C sucks but usually if you dig a little deeper their experiences are limited at that specific location. Most folks that say Fort Polk is the worst location to be at, were only there for JRTC. My advice to you is to embrace every duty station with an open mind and embrace the local culture and traditions. If you end up In Fort Polk, eat some Cajun food and go to Mardi gras. Fort Riley= hunting, fishing, Pillsbury crossing, Kansas city BBQ, and aggi-ville. Fort Sill= casinos, scooters, and rodeos. Point being there are experiences to be had everywhere and good or bad they will all be a story at your local VFW when you retire. Best of luck to you Soldier!

A duty station is what you make of it end of discussion! I had the time of my life in Germany, while my roommate hated it and complained about it everyday. If you don't travel outside of the barracks or the front gate, then every duty station is going to seem horrible.

SSG (Join to see) Perspective is truly the key. I knew several people at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany that said on multiple occasions that being stationed in Germany sucks.

It's all up to you and what you make of it.
I've seen people love North Dakota while many hate it. I've seen people hate Florida or Hawaii while others love it.

As the saying goes, "It's what you make of it."
I never had a "bad" duty station. Granted some were better than others.
Of my duty stations if i had to vote a "worst" it would be Homestead AFB. The Navy had a tenant command there. The base itself was really nice. Our work site was out in a swamp about 10 miles away. My "vote" would be based on a very poor command climate. We had a lot of drug busts there, sometimes 5-10 people at a time, a sex ring in the barracks and also fraternization issues.
But there was some awesome bass fishing there! And good night life in Miami Beach/Coconut Grove area, along with easy travel to the Florida Keys.

Ft. Rucker, AL aka UCLA (ugly corner of lower Alabama). Actually, it wasn't bad at all.
