It talks about how everything they do is contracted out and the officers each have a salary of 100k - 300k. It also talks about how out of all the funds that are donated only ~10% reach the wounded warriors.
This really bothers me because I know my wife and I have done fundraisers and donated to the WWP. Does this affect how you will donate? or where you will donate? Do you actually research the non-profits that you donate to?
I know I dont, but this will definitely make me start.
As we are coming to find out, wounded Vets are big money. Considering I'm 146% disabled, I'm trying to figure out how to tap into this.

I have been very troubled about the recent discussions about WWP being a scam. I have been giving to WWP even before I joined the military. A family friend of ours was SEAL who gave his life in Afghanistan. He had left in his will for everyone to give to WWP instead of spending money on flowers, etc. We had fundraisers and everything trying to raise money for WWP. I have met many who have been helped by WWP. To say the least this is very confusing, and I am very torn on the information.
Sir, this doesn't surprise me. As I have found out over the last several years, many of these so-called non-profits or charities have very high overheads to where very little actually goes to the "cause". I do not intend to make this into a political thing (some may mistake it as that) but many of these same organizations go against what the country is about. WWP happens to be anti-gun and I cannot possibly support any organization who wishes to limit my freedoms.

Andres, thanks for your reply on this intense topic. I appreciate your reasoning. We must all look closely at the nonprofits we support with our hard-earned money.

1st and foremost I would suggest taking this with a grain of salt, not saying it is wrong, but also not saying it is correct either, we have all experienced the media only telling half the story or even false ones partially due to politics or other agendas, I would wait until further investigation or details are validated.
I have also been a big supporter of this and many other military related organizations that have been accused of wrong doing only to be vindicated later, the Red Cross has had this happen to them numerous times over the years.

James, your on track as well. Working for a nonprofit that directly supports military families is a passion of mine. We're dedicated to ensuring 80% of the donations received go directly to those we serve: military and veteran families!

I respect that and hope that is the case. I have always been a big supporter of the wounded warriors.
If its true that their officers are making upwards of 150k a year do you believe this to be right? I understand that their job is not easy with all the coordination and fundraisers, but it seems that, that money could be used elsewhere. I do not know anything about what it takes to run a non-profit, but that type of salary seems a little high.

We ensure 80% (for 2012 and years past; 85% in 2013) goes to those we serve by diligently monitoring our financial assets. We owe it to those who are donors to ensure they are getting what they expect. Project Sanctuary is surpassing the industry standard. Maybe, but they have done some good work in the past and continue to be the most visible advocates for Wounded Warriors.
it does seem that they are leaning more and more this direction. they are going after similar organizations that 'dare' to use silhouetted soldiers in their images.
This is so petty for a charity to do. they've really lost sight of what they're suppose to be about.
I am not looking for a response but just want to state my own personal experience with VSOs. I am both a member of the DAV and WWP. In order to be a member of the DAV I had to pay $200 for my lifetime membership the WWP $0. I was a newly retired Vet and asked the DAV to assist in my VA claim I contacted them and gave them all the paperwork the asked for and for 1 week was in great contact. Now a 3 months later whenever I call I must go thru a messaging service and never get a call back. The WWP volunteered to look at my case and I have a rep that contacts me at least once a week for updates on my claim. once the WWP got involved it took 2 months and I was increased in my disability. WWP has also taken my family and I out for dinner and other events and programs with other WWP alumni at no cost. So I am not one to judge on how they spend money. I have received way more from the WWP at no cost to me or my family. Yet the DAV cost us $200 and all I got from them way a card that says Lifetime Member.
