Value and benefit of this certificate

That depends on where you are working or plan to work. To be a Fire marshal you must be a Fire marshal. Some areas require third party certification some require State Certification. If this is an additional certification it might be a feather in your cap, it might be a feel good thing for yourself, and it may mean absolutely nothing if you work for some agencys who do not acknoledge your achievements. That my friends is called Life and politics.

Advice on how to earn this certificate

Study, Study, Study! Having a career in the Fire Service for a number of years was helpful but not manditory. Engineering students and other Technical Geeks will feel right at home in the IFC, IBC and all the NFPA Code books. If you are someone who has exam anxiety, then stay away because the ICC exams make taking third year calculus a walk in the park. two hours to take a 60 question test that is dreamed up by real sadictic bastards and they will even tell you they are sadistic bastards and laugh about it. But seriously they just want to make sure you know where to find the Information you will need. (the IIC exam is in 3 parts)
