From RP Staff:
*Senator Cruz will be joining us for a live Q&A on Friday, 2/26 at 1:00pm EST. Post your questions below in advance of the Q&A. Questions with the most up votes will be answered first. Please be upfront and to the point with your questions. RP Staff will be monitoring this discussion.*
From Senator Ted Cruz:
America now faces a momentous decision. Almost a decade of irresponsible defense cuts has slashed the number of combat personnel, seriously degraded their combat readiness, and shrunk the size of our military below any reasonable standard. If America continues to lead from behind, we will lose the ability to guarantee our safety at home and abroad.
Our all-volunteer force deserves better. They deserve a leader who will provide them with the finest weapons systems and the best training. They deserve the full and unapologetic support of their Commander-in-Chief, not a minimal commitment and overly restrictive Rules of Engagement.
Furthermore, Americans make up the finest military professionals and veterans in the world, and they deserve an investment in their careers, their health, and their families. We must honor of our military members, families, and veterans by ensuring they receive the respect and care they have earned.
Under focused, new leadership, America can, and will, rebuild our military and take care of our veterans.

How would you select for the Department of Defense and what direction would you give them?

Sen. Cruz, if you are so strong on National Defense / Security why didn't you serve in the U.S. Military? My questions stems from a popular opinion of professional politicians, who vehemently argue for national security and increasing DOD funding. However, a vast majority of these politicians, you included, are not willing to put themselves in harms way or as some like to say, "put their blood in the fight". Decisions to go to war would be much harder if the decisions-makers knew members of their family may die as a result of their decision.

PO1 Kerry French
SPC Tanya Cummings Boozer - guess by the tone of his accusatory question, I assumed.

MCPO Roger Collins - I saw that right after I posted mine. I can see where you could have thought that.

Senator Cruz,
What kind of person would you appoint as Secretary of Defense. What attributes, experience, knowledge, and skills would you consider most important for this person to have prior to selection? What type of leadership and prioritization would you expect from them on the job?
Thank you for taking the time to engage with this community Sir.

why didn't we consider war with Iraq when they were shooting at our pilots enforcing the no fly zone, and then gassing the Kurds rather than when and why we eventually did ?

So more importantly is Rally Point going to invite other candidates (and publicize refusal or acceptance) or is RP taking a partisan stance.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS
LTC Martin Metz The problem with that is that quite a few of them "don't have a snowball's chance in hell" even with party backing. Sec Webb was a great candidate, and so was Gov Bush. They weren't ever going to get elected though. I'd still like to hear their thoughts, if only because we don't know they won't end up within an "Appointed" Position like Sec Kerry & Sec Clinton did after their failed previous attempts.

LTC Martin Metz - you are right and so am I. Is that not correct?? I may have worded it better but it is the way I feel!!

What are your detailed plans to fix the VA? As we continue to see more and more young men and women coming home and in need of lifetime care an overhaul is need now to prevent even more problems in the future. A radical IDEA would be to close all the VA facilities (huge savings to the government) and and just give Veterans a medical card allowing them to see the doctors of their choice. NOT an HMO card, but a card to let them see experts in the field they are in need of. The VA needs to spend more money and research in the field of PTSD as well.

Senator Ted Cruz - I am interested in why we have so many open and closed Congressional hearings to "get to the bottom of it" and nothing ever happens after that. I am wondering what is being done at your current level to actually get to the bottom of malfeasance and oust/punish those that require it? And a last question: what is being done about the platform vs publisher debate for social media platforms that claim they have the right to play editor yet still be considered to be a platform?
