I'm glad you found a way to navigate through it all. That is a journey not all of us make successfully.
A success story like this shows those of us that are struggling that there is a way back to a better place. It might not be the path you took, but there is a path.

Your experience will make you a tremendous asset to those you will be willing to help. Never misplace your ability to listen...both to yourself and those who you will be guiding along on their journey. Stay well and thank you for your efforts and honesty.

SGT Seth Napel thanks for sharing this story with us. How difficult was it to qualify for services through SHARE? Any tips for other veterans who might consider applying?

Very admirable of you but you have done your duty to God and country. I know the feeling of wanting to do the same thing . It's hard for warriors to sit on the sidelines when your country is calling. We can never really retire from our duty, it's in our blood and our mindset. Everyone deals with the problem in a different way. I hope you have found yours. God Bless

Thanks for sharing your powerful story. I got kicked out of the Army during Vietnam as a result of my addiction to alcohol and numerous other drugs, specifically I. V. Cocaine. By the grace of God I survived two decades of addiction, which took me through two failed marriages, jail, prison and even miraculously coming back from an overdose on PCP, at a 3 day rock music festival in Sedalia, Missouri the Summer of 1974. Sadly, after coming back from being flatlined in an E.R. at the University of MO., Hospital in Columbia for 2 & 1/2 minutes, I continued to use drugs for another 14 yrs., before I finally got sick & tired of being sick and tired and reached out for help.

I went through 30 days inpatient treatment at a V.A. Hospital in Big Springs, TX. Then I did 30 days in a half-way house down in San Angelo, TX, and by the Grace of God & the miracle of NA, I have been clean 31+ years now.
