Many of us are sickened by this act and even more sickened by the results of the court. He must have given them something very valuable to have this happen. No honor with trading 5 enemy military commanders and risk countless lives to rescue a single man who walked away from his post because he chose to. No rational thought would come out to this end. 6 men lost their lives, and many others injured trying to find him. How many of our men and women have died at the hands of these 5 Enemy Commanders since their release? How many refuse to ask these questions of our leaders? Just as has anyone asked where the billions that the last administration gave to Iran has been spent? Does anyone care. I am getting off track. What about the heros who died trying to find him and their families. This tells the world how weak we have become, yes many will take this as they can do whatever they choose to do. This also tells our enemies how weak we have become with political correctness etc. I am not trying to say the old ways are better. We must all grow with the times to stay ahead of the rest of the world, but this move served no future good but serves as a mockery to us all.

CMSgt. Sir, I believe some of the old ways are better. I know we will change and we must keep up with the changes. But some of the changes only benefit smaller groups. So many times I see where one person can object to something and they will change it no matter what. I have heard of tearing down of the monuments, statues that just a small amount of people want down. They is even talk of the Lee-Grant craving on Stone Mountain

CMSgt. I did my usual, cut myself off. Anyway, there is talk about Stone Mountain. We can never learn from history if everything is torned up and destroyed. All this is Political Correct in the eyes of the minority of people. Why question is always what is next? Now it's the money and in God We Trust. Will the crosses in graveyards be next. Or what about Arlington

MSgt John McGowan - I agree and I also do not agree on covering up the history of our country as I am a firm believer that once we do we will commit ourselves to it once again. I also believe that these movements are being fed through groups that support bringing back a lot of bad ideas by getting all our history erased. They know just as a lot of us that once the American people forget our past we will commit such atrocities again. I too wonder what is next. Right now it is deny everything, as a lie told long enough will become truth in many ears. We must all strive not to be a pawn on this great chess board.

"Ridicule is a man's most potent weapon". There is no defense. It's irrational. It's infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. Saul Alinsky Socialism.

Major. Sir, very well written piece. I do agree with you. I think this PC world now is changing people’s opinion of what is O K and what is not. Did he get his back pay? And a Federal Judge made a ruling that effects all of the military. Makes me wonder what is next!

And I do agree with you, MSgt! Back pay should go to those who suffered because of his actions. IMHO. Hooah!

While we all bemoan the sanction pronounced. It still has to be approved by the convening authority prior to the appeals are allowed. As the convening authority may reject it, and send it back for resentencing or he may modify it. So, the "fat lady has not sung yet"

The sentence is a disgrace and insults every individual ever killed or wounded in combat for doing his or her duty!

What upsets me the most is there are guys I served with who did their time and did it right while deployed, but got home and caught a DUI or smoked some weed and in the end got the same punishment as this dude got. Now I'm not saying DUIs and drugs have any place in the military, they clearly don't. But they don't rate even close to the same punishment as desertion during time of war.
