Percival Drayton, captain of the USS Pochahontas, was saddened that not only had the country become so divided, but this divisiveness made its way down to his family unit. His older brother, Thomas, loyal to his native region of the south, took up arms against Percy’s formidable northern charge for freedom for all. Although the brothers met as enemies at Port Royal, November 1861, they both survived the battle. Later, there is evidence of the two trying to mend their differences of loyalty through epistolary pardons, but it is not known if the communications were ever respectfully received before they perished.

In this era of divisiveness, manipulated truths, flagrant untruths, and pernicious gaslighting, I have found the Bible to be the resource that continues to keep the compass directing me to the one true north. It is divinely every bit as relevant today as it was when it was written, 2,000 years ago.
But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment…. Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. CW4 Jay Ossiander Absolutely correct! When I lived in Virginia I had to wait three months for an MRI through the VA! And ended up having to drive up to DC to get it done. Before the big push for going outside the system. Then I had to fight for mileage bc they said I could have waited another 3 months for the machine at my VA to get fixed.
I fought that and got my travel.

And your numbers don’t mean a thing if people can’t afford to pay for the service first off, second there is still a waiting period for approval from insurance companies (and the VA) and then still more waiting for an appointment.
I am waiting on an appointment right now for a new MRI so I can have another neck surgery that has already been approved. Been waiting for over a month now!

Patriotism has nothing to do with god... Patriotism has to do with Country, and in this country we are supposed to have the most freedoms as opposed to the rest of the world. Patriotism is what allows you to worship whatever god you want, but that's where many of you go wrong, you combine the two and then try to superior only your beliefs and what you were taught in your religion to be as the only right way and ignoring what is morally right and wrong as a human being. Why are there statues of Southern Generals from the civil war in all their grandeur as if they were the Victors in the war against America (because whether you like it or not, they fought against America and are the traitors in history, so what does that make you if you support that them?). When you forget that America is for everyone and not just one group or religion, then YOU are not a Patriot..

What slavery fo you speak of? There is current slavery in our country. Approximately 350,000 women and children are trafficked throughout the US yearly. But I guess the Government just turns a blind eye to the injustices done to the least of us.

SSG Edward Tilton - Hang me, TWICE? LOL I get it, but still think that Lincoln, then Johnson's policy of reconciliation served the country best. There is still SOME animosity by Southern State folks to this very day over the, "North's War of Aggression," and I can't imagine how much worse it would have been through the years without some reconcilaiton. It's like my divorce ... my former wife and I are very amicable today and always have been for the sake of our children if no other reason. Reconcilation bodes well after any conflict - i.e., the USA with Japan ... and with Germany. So it makes no sense had both sides of the Civil War not mended fences.

CWO2 Richard Rose - Chief, I agree with most of what you said ... especially in regard to the Carpetbaggers. Two areas I don't agree with. I did NOT say OFFICERS of the Confederacy were in favor of slavery ... I said, "While many in the South wanted to maintain slavery," and intentionally did not mention officers because we know that many abhored slavery - even Gen Lee who was a slave owner was unfomfortable with it. The other point is in regard to Sherman's March of "total war." Yes, rapes and pillaging certainly occurred, but I have read where Sherman also had a group of souldier rapists hung for rape. Still, there were many such acts reported. I am NOT defending the tactics that were outside of Sherman's orders, to wit:
"Sherman issued Special Orders No. 120. In it he gave strict instructions for how his men were to conduct themselves on the march. They were allowed to “forage liberally” from the countryside, and were given nearly free reign to take or destroy food, horses and livestock. However, they were not to enter homes or burn any buildings without express orders from the corps commanders."
"The Federal troops, Bummers as they were called, routinely violated orders along the march and burnt many houses along the way. However, they did not destroy everything in their path in a scorched earth policy as many believe today. In the 1930s a survey found that many, if not most, houses were left standing in the wake of the Yankee march."

Susan Hunter God may be the answer but religion is not. I honestly believe that if Jesus was to walk the earth today as he did in his day, 99% of the religious leaders in the US would close their doors to him and turn him away!
Especially if he looked the same as he did then. He was not a white male with a neat hair cut, thumping a Bible asking for you to pay for this building or that mansion that the leaders live in. And if he tried to cast them out of the temple’s as the Bible says they would have his foreign looking butt arrested and thrown in jail, especially since he wouldn’t have an ID card!
Too many religious organizations have taken to being involved in politics and I never liked a preacher that argued politics or a politician that preached religion!
And we have to much of both!

Indeed, some Trump loyalists are that way, but so too are those on the other side; probably more so with their utter hatred of patriotic people and America overall.

PV2 Larry Sellnow - I'm always amazed and perplexed by people's utter hatred of President Trump; but more so of his supporters. Calling them Fascists over a boisterous demonstration with LIMITED criminal events ... all while IGNORING the riots, assaults, rapes and muderes in several major cities in 2020 is hypocritical. Instead, leftists refer to all those events as "peaceful demonstrations." It would be laughable if not so incredibly ignorant.
