Okay, I usually post much lighter stuff. But those of you who read my posts, know that I occasionally do a "deep dive" on some topics. Artificial Intelligence being one of them. Lots of stuff out there about AI...and most of it is just how handy it is, and how those of us who tinker with it, kind of see it as a tool.
Captain Jack Durish has used it to make photos and covers for his books. Others have used it to cut the scut work in planning and scheduling. All of us have used it (even unknowingly ) for searching the Web, doing routine banking, customer service, or planing even just bringing up a map in our car to get somewhere.
But everyone I know, who actually works in the AI Field, they all seem to be afraid of it. I wanted to know why.
So I spent four hours a day, for the last ten days, listening to the CEO's of the Top Six "AI" Companies. (All of them run by Billionaires) speak. And the Godfather of AI himself. The Nobel Prize Winning Geoffrey Hinton. And man oh man, I can tell you that they paint a bleak picture for most of Humanity. Whoever wins the race for Super-intelligent AI (or AGI) well, we will all work for that guy...if we even have jobs.
I knew things like ChatGPT get better every day. So the first time you try it yourself, will be the worst it will ever be. That alone is hard to wrap your head around. But things like this tidbit ...really shook me up.
In New York, the Bar Exam is really tough. New Lawyers go deep into debt to get a degree in Law from a Prestigious School. But, AI's trained in Law, are already better than most New Lawyers. The result?
Firms aren't hiring new Lawyers. And soon there will only be Senior Partners Nobody working their way up anymore. So we lose generational talent being passed along.
And now the Billionaires want to pay off Student Loan Debt, or have it forgiven, because they know those unemployed Lawyers will turn towards Socialism, or a form of Universal Basic Income. And they don't want that.
I had no clue how all these little things are actually connected. One of the things I learned is that Political Power will be over as early as the Mid Terms. Because the AI companies are getting so rich and powerful, that the will of the people will become inconsequential for them. And there are no Fail Safe's in place. No Guardrails. It is an all out race to own the World's economy.
But my question, is what makes the folks racing willy nilly to be the first to reach AGI, and be in control, think that the AGI - which is more intelligent than they are...is going to listen to them...at all? Why would it?
I have listened to the top Dozen folks in the Field and the Top Seven CEO's of companies working on AI.
And all I can say is...Yikes.
There won't be (as far as I can tell from listening to these folks) 10% or 15% Unemployment...but 99% unemployment. As AI's, even without Super Intelligence are already better at every cognitive task you can do on a computer.
So, I say again...Yikes.

Yikes indeed! I use it, it’s a great tool and increases my efficiency. It seems inevitable so I am enjoying and learning until it inevitably realizes we are inefficient and gets rid of us.

PO3 Phyllis Maynard - It's like we didn't learn anything from "The Terminator" movies.

PO1 Theresa Aldrich progress and innovation are useful to humankind, they make life easier/enjoyable. But there are PLACES mankind journeys into that defy a greater more powerful existence. I do not like to think about an image where man has tampered into a PLACE of immense existence and he disappears into it.
