Capt Gregory Prickett LT Miranda Bernabei I don't see this as anything different than a Judge running on a tough on crime platform for re election. Like getting the approval of FOP or PBA unions. He clearly stated that he would take into consideration any mitigating circumstances, just no plea bargains. Well within any judicial discretion. Judges are never bound by any SA or DA plea bargain. Judges commonly put in writing Judicial Administrative orders regarding any matters in their courtroom. I'd re elect him.

The problem is that it interjects him into the plea bargain process, which is forbidden. He won't consider the entire range of punishment, which is forbidden. He's opened himself up to recusal in almost all criminal cases, and may be facing a complaint for violating the canon of judicial conduct.

This was a very bad move by the judge.

LA did the same with the "Hate Crime" law regarding cops. It's instantly a "hate crime" if a cop is assaulted? So should a cop be proven to have done the damage to the civilian, is that a "Hate Crime", or are we allowing Justice to flow one way and not the other?
In this case, the same applies. If the case came to him, and he is involved in the whole thing, why bother having a lawyer present or have a prosecutor? You just became both of them AND the Judge in one. This a sure fired resume generating moment.
