FORT MEADE, Md., Oct. 29, 2015 -- It's not every day you get to meet a prince, but several of America's injured service members were given that chance yesterday, showing off their adaptive sports skills to Britain's Prince Harry, who visited Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to officially launch the 2016 Invictus Games.

Prince Harry was greeted by cheers - and some squeals - when he entered Wells Field House. He, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, were introduced as if they were the stars of their own basketball game, slapping hands with the athletes, who lined up to meet them.

"All right, ladies, Prince Harry is here. Don't act like you don't notice," Obama said as the crowd laughed.

But why he was there is a serious subject that's dear to his heart.

Prince Harry is no stranger to war. He spent 10 years in the British army and did two tours of duty in Afghanistan - deployments that he said "changed the direction of my life." He revealed how, after his first deployment, he shared a flight home with three British soldiers in comas and a Danish soldier, who had been killed in action. That's when the reality of war really sunk in.

"From that moment, I knew I had the responsibility to help all veterans, who had made huge personal sacrifices for their countries to lead healthy and dignified lives after service," he said.

He's trying his best to keep to that promise, including in America.

I'm so happy that his involvement in the military and his status did not relegate him to a "playboy" like he was headed for. I've followed the things he has done and the Invtictus games and veterans as a whole are passions for him. He is using his status the right way to do what's best for veterans. I'm glad we can call him a brother! Maybe some folks over here can take a few pages from Prince Harry's playbook.

It's refreshing to see someone of his status actually care about our wounded brothers and sisters.

I personally worked this events earlier this week with the media from the US as well as around the world and they were incredibly interested in seeing how things are for people with unseen injuries including myself. it is incredibly important that there's a strong powerful person who is incredibly well followed to come out and speak on the subject and it's so refreshing that it just so happens to be somebody that has seen what we have seen. I sincerely hope that everybody who sees coverage of this event through the media really reads the stories because it is just amazing how a well-placed story with the right person could make an impact.

SGT(P) Jennifer Brande Thank you so much. WOW! You are involved in this event which I think is awesome of Prince Harry to get involved with WWP. Hopefully it should make a lot of difference in the non believers of WWP to see someone with Prince Harry's popularity and character, not only participating, but coming here specifically for this event. He does know first hand about war and the casualties and deaths that happen. Thanks again for your support and being involved.

SGT (Join to see) thanks for liking my comment but to clarify things he is not working with the WWP, he was here to promote the Invictus Games. One of the press I was escorting who has interviewed Prince Harry in the past is actually not a fan of them. The Invictus Games is his version of the Warrior Games that we have in the US each year but has brought it to the Global Stage and it's going to be an amazing event and of course go USA!
