My friend and his wife moved to Porto, Portugal two years ago. They rented for a long time and then found a place to live. Portugal has a housing shortage, to they passed a law where it is legal to change Businesses into Residential properties. So they bought a small IT Office. Not big, 1,300 sf. But it came with huge patio, and a thirty foot wall around that patio. A big, blank, white, plaster wall.
Well, my friends go to Church over there, and one of the Locals introduced them to their son. He is a well known Graffiti Artist, over there. So they became friends. Later when my friends got the contract to convert the Office, the kid came over to see the space.
When he saw that wall, he said: "Oh, what a lovely canvas."
"What do you mean?"
"Oh, it's perfect for a mural, or a grand painting!"
"You mean you would paint it for us?"
"Sure, just give me some idea of the things you would like to look up every day. Because with that wall, you are going to see it ...every...day."
And they all laughed.
They told the Artist guy, that they wanted the wall to represent how they feel about their new Town. The History, location, famous parts of town...and the river that leads to sea. And man, did he nail it.
And the picture at the top of the post...is what he came up with.
And my opinion of Graffiti Artists...went way way up! Through the roof!"
Or...sorry, over the Wall!
