The Samish Indian Nation on Friday debuted a new affordable housing project spanning 2 acres of tribal land in Anacortes. The project, called Xwch'ángteng, contains 14 two-bedroom cottages that are ADA-ready, along with a new community center and playground.
Samish tribal members who are seniors, disabled, and low-income will get priority for the new cottages, which are each roughly 1,000 square feet.

That is really cool! I remember talking to a Lakota kid my age when he visited our College and shared his heritage. Most of it was upbeat, until I asked him what it was like growing up on a reservation. He told me: "If you want to see what a concentration camp looks like without guards or fences...go to a Reservation. "
He also told me something this article mentions: "We are losing the knowledge of our Elders. And the language too. We need to try harder." This was back in 1973. He would be an Elder now.

Not much has changed on the Lakota reservations. Some but not a lot. Nor on most reservations.

SGT Kevin Hughes Many Thanks for the "Perspective" When it Comes to the Plight of "Native Americans" I'm Really Torn and in a Hell of a Situation. My Family, My Heritage is "Dawes" We did the Native Americans No Favors, Some Could Call Our Family the Eichman's of the Native Americans. Having Said that, My Oldest 3 Grandchildren have Pacific Northwest Native American Heritage! Hell of a Dilemma!

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - yeah, lots to sort through there. Tremendous amount of History isn't taught. Both the Good and the Bad. And there aren't any easy solutions. We aren't giving any land back...and tradition is hard to hang onto when progress is easier to follow.
