Okay, so what does a forty year old Comedian and a Famous Neuroscientist have in common. What's the connection? Brain damage. And they both found a way to work around that damage.
You all know by now, I read a lot. And I have watched a whole sh*tload of TED Talks. And Comedy Specials too. So if you want to see an amazing TED Talk, just look up : Jill Bolte Taylor's Talk. Watch the Documentary about it, and read her book. It is mind boggling.
Now Nate, well, he had three major concussions before he got out of High School. And before he got the first one, he was a smart kid. I mean Science Fair and Math level Nerd. Then he got the concussions. He barely made it out of HS. Went to a Junior College for a year...and didn't earn a single credit. He makes you laugh as he explains how stupid he was...and is.
I wondered how he came up with such brilliant Comedy, when he isn't very smart. But when I found out about his past. I realized that the "Smarts" are still here...he just doesn't realize how he accesses them.
He can't do real book learning ...or Academic Subjects, but he can find the humor in trying to spot someone in the dark using a lantern; like during the Revolutionary War. And that is some sophisticated Comedy.
So just like Jill, he found workarounds, some that he isn't even aware of. The brain is a massively complicated organ....and even damaged...it is capable of some remarkable work arounds.
