"The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover", is a 1977 movie made in the decade of his death. I like this movie version because it captures more accurate details and culture. The actors are those from the era. Hoover started out as a very idealist lawyer working for the Bureau of Investigation. This is a good movie and it is streaming on TUBI, free access.

As far as I know, Sister Phyllis, this was one conflicted and complicated man.

PO3 Edward Riddle that is to say the least. In the background of the terrifying deeds he is known for, his idealism was crushed by the corruption he worked under as a young idealistic, patriotic, fair dealing young attorney. When his mother died, something in him died. The lesson I have learned from this version of his life is this, something deep in the background of a person's life has the potential of becoming the trigger to skew an individual, in the years to come. I feel the love he had for his mother kept him grounded away from his dark side. I see an aspect of his humanity that has not been important to history.

Hoover, a man who was admired by some, hated by others and feared by almost all.
