GOP senator defends pro-Trump protesters who stormed Capitol

At a high-profile hearing on the insurrection at the US Capitol, Senator Ron Johnson on Tuesday claimed the mood of pro-Trump protesters who eventually stormed the Capitol had been “festive” before police fired a tear gas canister at them.
The Wisconsin Republican has been one of the chief promoters in Congress of discredited conspiracy theories that it was not supporters of the former president who perpetrated the attack on the legislature, but rather a small set of imposters.
Mr Johnson’s theories have been widely debunked and disproven by federal records on those who have been arrested for their roles in the riots.
On Tuesday Mr Johnson, citing the first-hand account of right-wing think tank scholar J Michael Waller published in the far-right publication The Federalist, blamed a cadre of “fake Trump supporters” for provoking police at the Capitol, who then provoked the larger crowd into riotous behaviour when they responded in kind.

Fake Trump protestors. OK. . .I agreed. Strong possibility. Now. . .how many of the REAL Trump protestors who stormed the Capitol are going to step up and admit as much?
What about the arrested Trump protestors who said they did it for him and they subsequently asked for pardons?
Chain of command? How many lower level insurrectionists heard it from lower level radical leaders to storm the Capitol, but during the former president speech that day, they heard him SAY he was going with them, so they took that to me "validation" this this is what HE personally wanted them to do? The tweet saying he was disappointed in his own Vice President, so they took that to mean find the VP?
How naive are some people? How naive are those supporters? How many of them? Many say over 74 million angry Americans? Many MANY use 74 million who perceived a fraudulent election took place. Who is telling the truth? Who is lying?
