It's only right the Service Academy grads do their obligated service after graduation. If they dint want the service obligation, then they should have gone to a college or university.

There's no question that academy graduates should fulfill their service obligation. However, barring them from an opportunity to become a professional athlete while in prime physical and technical condition and making them perform their ADSO (active duty service obligation) does the player a disservice. I think an effective solution is to allow academy graduates to serve in the Reserve component, albeit for a longer service obligation of 4 to 6 years. Remember, these academies don't produce a ton of professional athletes so what harm is it to allow them a tremendous opportunity?

Going pro is a once in a lifetime opportunity -- The secretarial plenary authority in Chap 15 of AR 635-200 address this... I'm sure the other services have similar provisions. This bill is only gives the Academies bad PR
