I want to go and tryout for regiment, but my concern is that tab. I feel like who I am as a young enlisted, well disciplined hard working soldier that the tab shouldn't depict who I am. No disrespect to the tab because I want to go and earn it, but I feel like we put too much weight on it. I know leaders with the tab and they actually have not been that senior enlisted role model that they should be. I just want to know how life would be for myself coming from an airborne unit with 2 years as a SPC. Thank you

I spent 4 years at the 75th and am now a doctor. The tab is a school, the 75th is a way of life! There are plenty of guys who are Spc that have not gone to school and are amazing. If you really want to be part of the most elite soldiers, stop trolling websites, sac the fuck up and go. RLTW!!

You either want it more than anything, or you don't. Your life will be shit compared to your cush life right now. But, you will earn something that you can't get anywhere else because you pay so dearly for it. In the end, it will be the very best experience of your life.

Thank you for your response sergeant. It's something I really and truly want. Cush life is not the words I would use because nothing's easy or simple in my unit that I'm in, but I know what I've learned here is something I can take there such as level 1 skilled tasks, me being an experienced RTO with the responsibility to deal with my company's como equipment and other basic knowledge I need to know as a young soldier expiring to be a leader.

Never have been in regiment and it's my biggest regret of my career! Especially having the opportunity to go as a (funny to say) experienced PFC with 1 deployment and a tab then immediately getting e-4-e-6 in the reg army cutting my teeth with the 82nd. That tab means everything to a BN or BDE CMD! What you do in you SQD/PLT/1SG time is solely based off of the individual and yearly write ups reflect. Then I PCS to AK for 3 years as the only enlisted in my company tabbed. Now at benning walking as an RI. Go immediately and let RASP weed you out if they don't want you they don't want you. Then expect to be pushed out to come see me with in2-3 months. Failure will then put you back into the 82nd or worse I see the 82nd the cream of the regular crop! The experience in a tier 1 type unit helps out for pushing past battalion, higher paying contacting jobs, and way better credential in the business world on leadership skills. GO! And don't look back. They'll dangle and e-4-e-5 carrot in front of you. If you want it and want to learn forget the carrot and got!!! Now!!

This is coming from an 11B who did all his 4 years in 3rd bat, and went to Ranger school within two years. I separated less than two years ago.

The literal value of the tab is debatable. But that is the system they use to weed out the ranks. The tab just means i'll now treat you like a ranger, not a child.

As an 11B, if you do not have a Ranger tab you are a "private" forever, period. If you enjoy having the responsibilities as a private than there ya go. Being a private in the Regiment is one of the worst experiences you can have. This is done on purpose to motivate you to go to school. Looking at your time in, they will want to send you to Ranger school immediately. If you don't go, then you will be labeled a shit bag and your life will be miserable, possibly being sent to an S shop or something similar. If you do go and pass, you will be treated like an NCO, and life gets better. That's the way it goes, make your decision based off of those facts.
