It is quite unfortunate that the CDC study, they did not publish in 1998, was suppressed because the results didn't fit the narrative. In the study, they noted that defensive uses of firearms in the US was between 60,000 and 2.5 million.

I quickly scanned this article by John Lott and also clicked on some of the links of his "citations". They go to Amazon.com for books that the author already wrote. It is likely biased and potentially a marketing ploy when he cites himself as a reference.

I found one link (two if you count the prologue) in all of the linked sources that went to the amazon site. While I agree he's hawking a book, the reviews of that book tell a different story. It seems he's done quite a bit of research and dismissing it because you don't agree with the conclusion is disingenuous.
