My wife and I went to go see a movie and there was a trailer for the movie "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" that's coming out soon. My wife leans over and whispers in my ear "What does Whiskey Tango Foxtrot mean?". I reply with a "What The Fuck - do you think it means?" A shocked deer in the headlights look and then finally - "Ohhhhhh.... I can't believe they got away with naming a movie that" - One of these days she's going to realize that my DILLIGAF t-shirt isn't some German clothing designer.

Our world, our humor, our lingo can be very abrasive and off putting indeed. It definitely needs to be watered down for civilian consumption.

I asked my wife if she knew what Whisky, Tango, Foxtrot stood for, and when I told her, she said almost the same thing your wife said, and added, "that's terrible ".

I read your post to my wife. She didn't say anything but I got "the look". Your would thank that after 35 years being married to to a Navy Chief she would catch on.

Military life though is so intense that the humor is magnified to the observer. Civilians and people who have not been there do not have that intensity and so the humor, while discernable, is not as appreciated. The funniest people often have the greatest pain.

SGT (Join to see) Great article. So true, what's funny to us isn't funny to those who don't know the jargon and kills the story when you have to stop and explain every other word.

And is embarrassing when you get to the end of it and are laughing really hard, and they are looking at you as if you're crazy.

I work with about 9 other veterans. We are constantly talking about practical jokes we pulled on each other. One of my other coworkers, who never served, just looks at us like a deer in headlights. LOL. I so want to play a military joke on him to prove how stupid he actually is.

My wife tells me I still have mental problems when I tell her some of the funny things that happened while I was in the Army.
