I'm thinking looking at this when I got to McClellan at night. It was much like this, and the longer I look at this video, I find myself asking would I really do it again? Do I want some DS yelling at me like I don't have a brain for the next six months again? Do I want some DS doing the Shark Attack again? Getting smoked at all hours of the day and night? "Making your buddy smile" in the chow line? "Screaming One dedicated, motivated, Rude Dog ready for Chow Drill Sergeant" just to take one step into the chow hall? Hearing "Stackmen on your feet". If I ever see another "smart book" again, I'll cry. If I ever hear "Down by the River...we took a little walk"....I'll commit myself. Is it possible to skip this part and do everything else again?

I would so do it again! I learned so much about myself and how weak or strong the human mind can be if trained properly. Thinking back 37 yrs it still seems like yesterday!

It's been 63 years for me MGy...
& not a days goes by that I don't think how fortunate I was to have been in the Marines....And often wondered if I have stayed in for the whole nine yards; what would have happened..

Sgt Tom Cunnally - When I was on recruiting duty for 47 long months of my 36 month tour I had many former Marines attempting to get back in. I understand your thoughts Tom. I often thought of getting many times in my 30 yr career.

I went to Navy Basic right out of High School. Graduated Army Basic the day before my 31st birthday. I may not be an expert on Basic Training experiences, but I'm at least a knowledgeable amateur, and I can truthfully say: HELL NO.
God bless them, but that's a young man's endeavor.

The Marines in the PLC program broke up OCS into two summer sessions of 6 weeks each, So in effect it was like doing boot camp twice. We also had prior service Marines who had actually been to enlisted boot camp, so for them it was like going three times! On the plane ride from SoCal (LAX) to Quantico for PLC Senior OCS session (I had first attended PLC JR OCS in the summer of 1983) it was kind of bleak, because you knew exactly what you were in for on that second session of PLC Seniors. While we looked forward to getting it over with, we were not exactly jumping for joy at the prospect of having Marine DIs kicking our butts for the next six weeks. To say nothing of the rigorous PT standards that the Marine Corps required of its OCS candidates to graduate. I would not want to do that again. There is a reason 18 year old kids put up with the ass kicking of Boot camp. The older you get the less likely you are willing to have somebody treat you like a recruit gets hammered by a DI. My humble opinion.

SSG Warren Swan - I was in Hunstville AL in 1973 & It was not as bad as Houston in the summer.. Plus Houston had a few tornadoes that got my attention while driving from the Airport. Folks were jumping out of their cars and laying in the storm drainage ditches along the Hwy as one roared overhead.

Sgt Tom Cunnally - well you are supposed to get out of the car....but...a drainage ditch? I see lots of pain from that move. I too have heard that Houston is no joke in the heat and humidity dept.

Capt Lance Gallardo - well it's somewhat reassuring that the Army aren't the only ones using the wet bulb to gauge heat. I used to pray that thing would make it so that all training had to be done indoors. Funny how rarely it happened.
