Incredible. Does anyone really think the turbo prop "light Attack Airplanes" the air force is trying to say can be an interim replacement (or permanent replacement) for the A-10 will be able to absorb anywhere near that much damage from a Surface to Air Missile and bring its pilot(s) home?

Capt Lance Gallardo - I said on a different thread that the Army and Marines should have the A-10, being that they have the most at stake as far as soldiers in direct action against an enemy. Just makes sense that while we are all on the same team, having the pilots a part of the unit would give them the added incentive. CAS missions are no longer in support of a faceless voice on the other end of a radio, it is now my unit, and nobody screws with my unit. Further, Imagine an armored division with air capability. Fear the tanks, on the ground and overhead. It just seems like common sense to me, which is probably why it will never happen.

New aircraft are not designed to take these hits. They rely on stealth not shear Braun and badassery.

I worked on these beasts at RAF Bentwaters 81st TAC Fighter wing. They are awesome.

Not with exposed props below the armor.

Makes me think some Air Force generals should retire.
