I have been on this ship. The radar was still considered classified in 1998 so it was covered up. Thank you for letting me know that they got rid of this piece of History. Very sad..

Makes me sad.....my daily commute to Crystal City was brightened for many years by the sight of this fine ship. Over the Christmas Holidays it was a beautiful sight with the lights on the lines.

I suspect that the Upkeep cost had just become Prohibitive along with the staffing by the US Navy Ceremonial Guard personnel. I hope they are Planning a Replacement maybe one from Desert Storm.
