This administration was the worst I served under. I knew it was coming in 2009 after Obama played games with sending excess troops A-Stan; renigged, leading to criticism by McCrystal and McCrystals sacking. Clinton was a shitty CiC too.

I can't imagine how bad it would be under Hillary: I feel bad for the troops.

I'm an old vet. I have 5 family members currently serving, and one that just retired last year. Having said that, I feel your pain, although not in the same way. I served under President Carter (and Nixon and Ford). Serving under Carter was hell. He was the reason I left active duty. No money for anything, no fresh ammo, repair parts, not even sheets. Training was limited to Reforger. Newbies were either substandard IQ or go in the Army or go to jail types. At that time, I was in a Mechanized Infantry unit-81's! Our GDP was the East/West border of Fulda, West Germany. We were concerned that "if" the balloon went up (high probability with Carter's weak buttocks), we'd go down, and very quickly. I should have hung on. Help was on the way, in the form of President Reagan.

The moral to the story is, when you feel you've gotten to the end of your rope, tie a knot in it, urinate in the wind, smile in the face of the dragons, stick your finger in the face of the politicians and hang on.

Help IS on the way.
You younger guys have it worse than we did in 'Nam, I feel. I appreciate and love you all. Thanks for all of the nights I have slept so well and felt so safe.

SFC Pratt...Not being critical, just trying to help.
Reneg=renegotiated. Renig is taken as a racial slur.

SSG John Thornton - Renigged and reneged are the same word, and therefore are alterations of each other. Neither is meant as a racial slur, unless you put the connotation in yourself. SFC David Pratt I wouldn't worry about it, some people just like to jump on others for what they deem to be an impropriety.

Once retired, you can speak out about your opinions on certain things that you must not while in uniform.

CSM, you are so right about what we say while serving. A lot of people do not fully understand what Tone and Perception really are.

Have you ever known of a Retiree being called back to stand trial? I have read that nonsense article and I also know the laws in the states I visit. I also know it is a bad idea to bring dope onto a military base and smoke it.

The headline is very misleading, and the article doesn't include everything that went down. Big O didn't resign, his time was up and he was ready to go. IF he was canned, that would've been all over the lamestream news. Had we kept a force in Iraq ISIS would've been prevented, except the fact that the Iraqi PM wanted us gone. How many articles have been written by media outlets from both sides acknowledging that? We gave Iraq back to the populace, and they are a soverign nation. We have no legal standing to say F*CK YOU, we're going to stay. That makes us occupiers, something both Bush and Obama didn't want us to be seen as. He retired, while it would be nice to get his opinion, the whole point in ETS'ing, retiring, or whatever is to give an up and coming person a chance to prove themselves or fall on their sword. There is also a center for lessons learned where future leaders can get insight from the action/inactions from previous leaders. This is one of the crappier articles "exposing the President"? Seriously? I could go buy the National Enquirer and get more facts from that.

SFC Shane Funkhouser - I've never been to Iraq, but what you mention with the local populace wanting us to stay makes sense. I saw that when COBs were closing and locals were upset that they wouldn't be protected anymore. I remember hearing about the blackwater issues and them wanting to be able to prosecute us, but I also remember the PM calling us "occupiers" and mentioning he wanted us gone. So what he couldn't get through a SOFA, he got by kicking us out. Weird how we're back again. We almost lost Afghanistan when they wouldn't sign the SOFA keeping us there until the next president took over.

Actually, the Iraqi PM would outwardly talk about the US and how he wanted us out, but would try to entice us to stay in Iraq.
