This is a terrible tragedy. I heard about it earlier on our local news. Poor woman was just trying to do the right thing by joining the Citizens Police Academy. I'll bet this officer will never forgive himself for not checking his weapon to see if live rounds were in it.

Stupid shits SGT (Join to see). It really pisses me off when the police do this. If it were you and i who did something like that, they'd be all over our case for being so careless and hell, we'd probably even be charged with something. But when the police do it, its a horrible, horrible tragedy. These are the people who are supposed to know better. The average soldier knows more about safe firearms handling than most 20 year law enforcement personnel.
The rep from our state, James Langevin was paralyzed by a police bullet in the police station when he was an explorer scout and now he's another one of our anti guns nuts in Congress. Thanks for bringing this story to our attention. My sympathies to her family.

SFC William Farrell, Mistakes are made, but these guys are professionals and shouldn't make as costly a mistake as this. I feel really bad for this woman's family. I feel bad for the cop too, and no telling how long it will take for him to begin to get over this. I do smell a lawsuit coming and I can't blame her family for that. It's just a horrible horrible tragedy.

Every gun is loaded, every time you touch it. This tragedy was 100% preventable. I don't know how this cop is going to deal with this. Sorry for everyone involved.

That's what I was taught and that is what I taught my sons and daughter, SFC (Join to see). None of us have ever come close to a firearm accident.

My dad was military and LE. Both of us shot competitively. To this day I still check every time I pick one up. Even if I just say it down and no one else is there. The other question I had was "why were they doing "shoot/don't shoot" scenarios with civilians and real firearms?" There were a lot of bad decisions made leading up to this.

Stupid. He should have checked his weapon to include a second and third pair of eyes. This is not rocket science.
