SFC William Farrell posted this article in another post and it was an eye opener. This election may be the ' I'm as mad as hell and I don't want to take it anymore' moment where blind allegiances to one party suddenly changes and they vote for real change.

So tell me this, why should have Black Americans continued to support Republicans when they were ignored and passed over when Nixon adopted his "Southern Strategy?" Democrats listened to Black America when Republicans felt that their voice or vote wasn't required in the 60s GOP.

SGT Gregory Lawritson I've said this a time or two in the past, but I'll continue to repeat this: If Republicans saw all of this happening, then why didn't they do something about it? Instead of wasting 8 years fighting against a president and policy they didn't agree with, why didn't the GOP introduce "common-sense" legislation to help those uneducated, impoverished people and improve their quality of life?
Far too many people want to lay the problems of America at the president's feet and to a degree it is on him; he's in charge so it's on him. However, if you see a problem and refuse to change it, aren't you just as responsible? The GOP has had eight years to do something constructive and has done nothing except fight against Obama.

SSG Michael Hartsfield - From what I've witnessed over the past number of years, not only does the GOP not want the Black American vote, they don't even want them to vote at all. Look at all of the GOP-led states with all of the new voter ID requirements, the closure of locations to get voter IDs, the shutting down of early voting, etc. In the recent Mississippi Senate primary runoff (2014 Cochran vs. McDaniel), the GOP faced a big uproar from conservatives over some black citizens who crossed party lines and voted in the Republican primary. I think the problem is well beyond simply not wanting to work for their vote. The GOP appears to have made a political calculation that working to get those votes is a net loss (i.e. they'll lose more conservative voters than they'll gain from new Black American voters).

JFK is a really bad choice when reaching for a Democrat for the blacks to follow. Senator John F Kennedy stood shoulder to shoulder with the Democratic caucus in the Senate and blocked the Civil Rights Act when it was proposed in the 50's. It wasn't until after his assassination that LBJ latched onto the Civil Rights Act as a prelude to entrapping blacks in the Democratic agenda, so that they would vote with the DNC for the next 200 years (I'm using less offensive language than LBJ). Even then, LBJ had to rely on solid backing from the Republicans to get it passed.

thanks Jack. Selma was a good movie and it showed the scenes of LBJ discussing with Hoover, King and others. My wife deals with rascism in Canada not as bad as this movie but more subtle like Billy Jack.
