Also on that mission with General Stewart here is with the aircrew in front of the B52 that mission over North Vietnam was flown on. General Stewart is standing in center. When they made an in flight refueling General Stewart was at the controls and the boom operator on the KC135 commented on the General's voice being familiar, He knew there was a General Stewart on board but didn't know it was that General Stewart.
It should also be noted that in WWII, then Colonel James Stewart was the Commander of a Bomb Wing and flew 23 Combat Missions as pilot on a B24 Liberator. He also had a policy that the press wasn't allowed on the base, they had a war to fight. Prior to WWII He was and Instructor pilot on a B17. After WWII He also joined the Mach 2 club by flying in a B58 Hustler in excess of that Mach 2 speed.

A true and classic American. One of the last of Hollywoods "Good Guys". I always respected BG Stewart after learning his military credits were off limits from Hollywood to use!

Truly one of the good guys. Today's Hollywood would have no use for him

Even in Jimmy Stewart's day, most of His real close friends were Military People. He said that although Hollywood was fun what He did in the Military was what was most important.
