Hahaha! I have seen plenty of Marines that dropped their pack and gave the Corps the middle finger, in all stages of career. That is actually a good thing. If a Marine is a non-hacker, and wants to quit, it is an awesome thing that his fellow Marines were able to weed him out to make that decision.
One of the worst things is actually making it to combat, then coming up with that decision. In the Corps, we police our own. That is likely why this young motivator had a sudden epiphany! :D
Any responsible unit would send him to HQ RBE working parties for the remainder of his enlistment. That way the Corps can get back one-way-or-another the money, time, and resources it put into him

Sgt David Wyble the only part I would argue with you is your statement about getting back what they put in. Having him on working parties for three years would still not get back the money it costs in basic training for one marine. Parachute tester might be a good role for him though, Crash test dummies are way more than the Basic Training costs.
