You could say yes and no to this matter as Memorial Day has been seen as a holiday welcoming summer with cook outs and fun at the beaches. It's not the retailers fault for this but they try and make the most money on this day by giving sale prices on most things. You will here them say come in and get a new car and get $2000.00 off with your military ID. others follow these same rules. This was just an example of a commercial I see on tv allot. I've noticed most civilians I know do not take this day to honor our fallen veterans, they just see it as a day to relax and party.

Well there are two sides to everything... they say the same about Christmas. If you aren't a Veteran or the family member of Vet, and/or you never lost anyone or known someone who died while serving... it loses its meaning. Some who moves to the US don't care about Thanksgiving, just like we don't care about Boxing Day... and the same is for Memorial Day. The average person just don't understand, and never will.

Sergeant, I don't think any of them actually understand the significance of Memorial day. To most, it simply is another holiday.
