Here's how rogue electors can still steal the election

While Donald Trump won more Electoral College points than Hillary Clinton on Nov. 8, the election is not over. On Dec. 19, appointed state electors will vote for president and vice president of the United States, and, while they are supposed to vote for the state winner, they have the option to "go rogue," or vote against their state's majority. The 2016 presidential election will be drama-filled to the bitter end.

There are only two ways the electors can steal the election from Trump. Either 37+ Republican electors would have to vote for Hillary, giving Hillary 270+ electoral votes, or 270+ electors would have to vote for someone else.
If 37+ electors switch their vote from Trump to someone else besides Hillary, it will deny Trump the required majority of electoral votes, but then the House of Representatives will decide the next President, and they're going to vote for Trump.
Actually, there is one other way they could steal the election from Trump. When the vote gets referred to the House of Representatives, they can only vote for the top three vote-getters from the Electoral College vote. So if Trump is 4th on the list, he would not be eligible to be considered by the House of Representatives. But assuming the electoral votes for Hillary remain unchanged, that would require at least 206 Trump votes to change. They would have to vote for two other candidates, and both of those candidates would have to have higher vote totals than Trump.
But none of that is going to happen. It would require a concentrated, coordinated effort, not to mention a large number of electors who would be willing to change their votes. The term "Electoral College" might give the impression of all electors gather in one place to hold their vote, which would then give the faithless electors a chance to collude, but that's not the case. The electors all meet in their respective states.
It's all very amusing to me. Think of any ardent liberal or conservative here on RP, and imagine trying to convince any of them to change their vote. It just isn't going to happen. (They might get a couple, but it's not going to matter.) The move to steal the vote from Trump is based on liberal fear and fear-mongering, and I just don't think the Republican electors are going to fall for it. I think the liberals are going to be exactly as successful with this as they were with their recount efforts.

I doubt it. No one does anything NOW nor has done anything in the past. Google "Faithless Voters." No one has ever gone to jail, etc. This is my #1 reason for banning the electoral college. There's no consequences for them not doing their job.

I think about 29 states and D.C. have state penalties for "faithless electors" but no Federal statute exists requiring them to vote according to the will of the state. I believe the penalties are in the range of $ 1000 fine. This will pass.
