Not sure what we're hoping will be the result of this attack......it could cause the Syrians to go to cover......or it could open Pandora's box and further inflame the middle east. I hope we have planned for, and are ready, for all the different contingencies. A lot of different things could happen next......the majority of which would not be to our advantage. To coin old Marine Corps terminology.....stand the f_ck by!

Well now ... I can see a whole bunch of upside from this strike. (1) CNN and General (Ret) McCaffrey are squarely in bed with Russia and Iran in condemning it while Trump and the U.S. are in bed with Australia, Japan, Turkey, Israel, a host of other countries, and Hillary Clinton (I know, the imagery sucks). (2) The U.S. has finally reacted to Obama's "red line". Use of chemical weapons have real consequences - deeds, not words. (3) Trump has a "credibility" ace in his hand when he meets today with President Xi of China when he pushes China to get their protégé under control or the U.S. will be forced to act. (4) Trump has demonstrated that the U.S. under his leadership is not a paper tiger and that his national security team can react swiftly and with a focused and rational response to misdeeds by foreign players. That message will be heard well outside of Syria and one can bet that Kim Jong Un is listening. (5) Even John McCain is exuberant over this action, praising Trump's national security team as the strongest he's every seen.

Among the international statements of support came one from Australia that pretty well sums up my view. From the AP @ Fox News:

(Begin quote) Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told reporters that the Australian government supported the “swift and just response” of the U.S. airstrikes.

"This was a calibrated, proportionate and targeted response. It sends a strong message to the Assad regime, and ... has been struck at the very airfield from which the chemical attack was delivered,” Turnbull said.(End quote)

What are the downsides? Other than Russia, Iran, and CNN being butt-hurt, I don't see any.

I got a question for anyone on this form.

Why would Assad Gas Idlib?

Why would he give the biggest country a reason to remove him from power.

Austin Hocutt - He seems thought that Tilson's statement that we would stay out of Syria's internet conflicts would protect him, that mistake, That false perception evaporated as fast as the SARIN did.

Well then again, do you take Assad for a fool to assume that if he committed actual war crimes that we'd stay out of it?

Well what about when he cooperated with the UN to dismantle his Chemical weapons back during 2013 and was confirmed by UN that they did dismantle their chemical weapons? Do you think he doesn't understand that if he did use those weapons he'd be in a world of hurt?

Austin Hocutt - i take Assad for a psychopath and a fool, he has been committing actual war crimes for seven years and we have n done nothing about it, he just pushed the line again and learned where the line was too late.

I agree. There is no profit of any type in gassing his own people. Besides, didn't the UN monitor his surrender of all his chemical weapons? It stands to reason that someone else, who has more to gain likely pulled this off. Maybe I've read too much Clancy, and Brad Thor, but the cover story doesn't wash. There seems to be a "Rush to War" going on all over the globe. Everyone is lighting fuses to larger powder kegs. While I, like many of you, am proud of our Military and our abilities, there is more to this below the surface. Someone or lots of someones are manipulating events.

SCPO Morris Ramsey - "Reach Out and Touch Someone" That is what I did, You want to Play, You want to Dance? "I do Not Play Fair, I do not Play Nice". Let Me see Trump do to Assad what President Obama did to Bin Laden, Then I will be Impressed.
