Unless they were going against the CHENG's engineering recommendation.....or he'll get fired further down the line.

Unless the CHENG wrote his specific reasons for not supporting the Chain of Command in the Engineering log.

LTC Jason Mackay - Oh absolutely agree, was just mentioning how the CHENG could still be there while the CO/XO were canned. If it was Engineering related as to why they were fired, then that is the only conceivable reason that the CHENG would still be there. Still, it is all armchair quarterbacking.

To be specific amateur gundecking.

Maybe the equipment involved wasn't in the engineering plant. Then again in that case you'd expect whomever was the department head to get the ax.

Maybe the XO was blowing off zone inspections and the CO didn't care?
