Let's keep in mind the last congress person to be shot was a Democrat (Gabby Giffords). It happens to both parties. Hopefully the shooter was able to communicate what his motivation was before he died. Great job by responding cops.

So she was shot in the face just for the hell of it? No animosity towards those lefty socialists? No anger out there at that time? Your memory is suspect......

SPC Erich Guenther - I think you just gave an example of what SSG Hartsfield is talking about.

SSgt Gary Andrews - Can you not read? She was shot by someone mentally ill and his motivation was her gender, because she was a women in political office........ not her politics. The Liberals distorted it into a Tea Party thing but he did not shoot her due to her politics nor his Tea Party affiliation. Regardless, assigning motivation to a mentally ill person is a Liberal trait..........like they are all walking zombies with no thought process, just waiting to be influenced by someone with violent thoughts............and my personal favorite, they need a rational justification for killing someone. C'mon, really........is that how mental illness works? Oh and I stand by what I said because it is 100% accurate.

SPC Erich Guenther - There we go. The mentally ill defense. He was a conspiracy theory, anti-government, pro-NRA nut case and his motivations was a combination of mental health driven by the crap he read and watched on the internet. Note we waited to find out more about the shooter before labeling him.
So why can't we wait for more details on this shooter's motive before applying the "Hate Campaign by the Media and Opposing Political Party" label on him? Do us a favor; wait for the facts and keep any political bias in closed circles. Respect the victims.

Thanks for the memories. I enjoyed the movie and song when it first came out. Would be interesting to see what today's youth think and relate to what is being said in the song.

SSG Michael Hartsfield As the event has moved from the active shooter to the investigation phase, the question is becoming more to the point. Right now everyone is outraged that a member of the congress to which they belong was attacked. As time passes the vitriol will return, and it will be business as usual. You are absolutely right. I have been following a live feed of this morning's events, and people are hateful to each other. I saw a person comment that "All Democrats should lose their rights" Why would anyone even suggest that. I have also seen suggestions that democrats be banned altogether. I personally am in favor of dissolution of all political parties. Let politicians stand for the constituents who sent them to Washington, but that is not a topic for today. Today we should as a society be grateful that the only life lost in today's events was that of the attacker. We should be taking an extra moment to find our own humanity. I am not suggesting a massive kumbaya sing along. I am just saying that we don't have to tear each other down in disagreement. That video is pretty spot on. I know it is supposed to be applied to the bloods and crips in CA, but it can be readily applied to republicans and democrats in DC as well.
