The Polish Government formed a government in exile in France and then England. When the Germans invaded France the Free Polish Army was somewhere between 50,000 to 70,000 soldiers serving in France under French command.

One of the most dramatic military escapes in history. So much came down to luck in that operation it was a miracle that many troops were able to get away
