How about The Grapes of Wrath the book. The book I read it in 8th grade. The movie The Grapes of Wrath is a mellow down PG version of a Rated-R book

SSG Jon Hill - there's nothing wrong with what you said. Still, school districts will try to revise history and take away books so it wouldn't be funny that they wood prohibit books like Fahrenheit 451 and 1984. That's one thing the Hitler did after coming to power in 1933 was to burn books the Nazi party did not like!

SSG Jon Hill - thank you staff sergeant Hill! The drill sergeant on the right was drill sergeant or staff sergeant van zile. You probably didn't know him but he was at Fort McClellan and I was probably his age and basic training at age 31. I am the soldier on the second row from the top actually the Soldier just above him. I saw him less than two years later when I went through military police officer basic through Fort McClellan. I was the only Soldier he knew that took his advice and went officer. I am a guard and Army Reserve Citizen Soldier. I thank you and the NCO Corps for helping us out both as a junior enlisted and later as a platoon leader and above. Ncos are the backbone of the army

When with PC end. Really, how did we survive the formative years of growing up from the 60s thru the 80s? It's one thing to protect your children, but sheltering them from everything should be outlawed..

I think you misunderstood what I meant, I was referring to the school district and those who felt "uncomfortable."

"A message on the school's website says "To Kill A Mockingbird" teaches students that compassion and empathy don't depend upon race or education. Holloway says other books can teach the same lessons." Not as well. The language in the book emphasizes the ills of the society explored in the novel- a society that was our society not too long ago. Yes, it makes people feel uncomfortable. It's suppose to. It's a part of the experience in the book. IMHO, books on this subject matter, that don't make you feel uncomfortable, aren't doing their job. Racism is not a comfortable thing to discuss period, and yet, it's one of the most important discussions we can have.
