Marc...I did 2.5 years up there and loved it. I was newly married and yes it got cold but it was very tight knit community that loved its airmen and its base. Now it was seriously cold but you had to make your own way just like any other assginment. We would routinely go up to Canada for long weekends, down to Rapid City or over to Minneapolis. Now that ws married life. If I were to go there single and live in a dorm...well that may be a different story or single as an officer and live downtown by myself... I had single friends and we always made a point to reachout to them and invite them to travel with us or comeover for holidays etc. But I hope that the leadership at Minot gets a grip on this as loss of one of our brothers is one too many!!!!

One of our family friends actually picked Minot for his last duty station. He planned to buy property to have a Christmas Tree farm and a shop to refurbish household furnishings.
Another of my friends from Long Island went to military schools most of his early and high school years. College was Norwich and ROTC. Ended up in the Air Force flying the BUFF (B-52 to non AF members) out of Minot. He was getting out about a year after I went on active. He was not enamored with Minot.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth It's sad that some see it as a dead end area. I know there are some armpit areas where bases are located, but I think they are few and far between. And the term 'armpit' is in the nose of the sniffer.

It's sad really. Thinking death is the only way out. I just don't know how we defeat this.
